A well-known actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is joining the new DC Universe as the villain Reverse-Flash, and new artwork shows them in the role. With James Gunn leading the DC Universe, we can expect to see more actors transition between the Marvel and DC superhero worlds, a trend that’s already begun with the initial DCU projects.
Several actors who previously appeared in Marvel projects—including Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, and Michael Rooker—are now working on DC films and shows. This trend suggests we might see more Marvel stars playing key villains in the DC Universe, potentially even iconic characters like Reverse-Flash. Currently, fan art is circulating that depicts a popular Marvel actor taking on the role of this Flash villain.
Artist @spdrmnkyxxiii posted a rendering on Instagram showing actor Wilson Bethel as a possible version of the Reverse-Flash in the DC Universe.
Josh Bethel was considered for the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After Chris Evans became known as Steve Rogers, Bethel played Bullseye in the Netflix series Daredevil and recently returned to the role in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again. Fan art depicts Bethel as the DC villain Reverse-Flash, wearing the character’s iconic suit and sporting a menacing look with a sinister smile and red eyes.

With his return as Bullseye, Wilson Bethel appears poised for a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was crucial to the recent Daredevil series and is confirmed to reappear in season two of Daredevil: Born Again. This raises the question of whether he’ll be able to balance that commitment with potential projects in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
Despite the rivalry between Marvel and DC, actors like David Harbour and Sean Gunn have proven it’s possible to be well-known in both universes. Harbour plays Red Guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Eric Frankenstein in DC’s Creature Commandos. Similarly, Sean Gunn is known as Kraglin in the MCU’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and he also takes on multiple roles within the DC Universe.
Whether Wilson Bethel will reprise his role as Reverse-Flash in the new DC Universe depends on DC’s future plans for The Flash. Following the disappointing performance of the 2023 The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller, James Gunn has confirmed the studio is pausing development of The Flash storylines for the new universe.
Why Wilson Bethel Would Be Perfect For The DCU’s Reverse-Flash
If Reverse-Flash ever appears in the DC Universe, Wilson Bethel would be a great choice to play him. He’s already proven he can play a fantastic villain in superhero TV shows. His portrayal of Bullseye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was particularly strong – violent, captivating, and with a lot of depth, making him one of the MCU’s best villains.
Wouldn’t Wilson Bethel make a fantastic Reverse-Flash for DC? With the previous Flash movie receiving mixed reactions, casting a popular actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a key villain could be exactly what DC needs to revitalize its stories about speedsters. At 41 years old, Bethel is a great fit to play Reverse-Flash in the new DC Universe for years to come.
