Fans Are Hoping This Classic Resident Evil Enemy Is Coming Back

At the 2025 Summer Game Fest, Capcom unveiled that Resident Evil Requiem marks their return to Raccoon City, last seen in Resident Evil 3. The updated city has undergone three decades of changes since its bombing, but fans can anticipate many nods to the original trilogy. Given the series’ history of reprising characters, such callbacks are certainly not out of the question.

Focusing primarily on our main character, Grace Ashcroft, is more than enough. She’s notable because she’s the offspring of Alyssa Ashcroft, who made appearances in “Resident Evil Outbreak” and was explicitly mentioned in “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard”. Preliminary images have confirmed that we will revisit the police station from “Resident Evil 2”, but it’s yet to be determined whether we can fully explore it or if it will merely appear in a cutscene. These two facts are merely the beginning of many exciting discoveries.

As a devoted Resident Evil fan, I can’t help but notice the buzzing excitement among fellow enthusiasts online about what could unfold in _Resident Evil: Extinction_. While some theories veer into the realm of pure imagination, there are a few speculations that genuinely pique my interest. One theory that has me particularly intrigued revolves around a legendary adversary from the original _Resident Evil_ remake, which was exclusively available on GameCube. In this game, Capcom introduced a new antagonist, one we haven’t encountered much since. Could this forgotten foe make a dramatic comeback in _Resident Evil: Extinction_? Only time will tell!

One interesting touch in the remake of Resident Evil is the introduction of The Crimson Head zombies. Unlike regular ones, these fast-moving, powerful versions of zombies appear only when you kill a normal zombie without burning it first. This design works particularly well because the game is a remake. Players familiar with the Spencer Mansion might stockpile ammo, making combat in the survival horror genre less challenging. However, Crimson Heads change this dynamic, offering veteran players a fresh challenge and encouraging them to avoid combat whenever possible.

Although they haven’t appeared in any other major Resident Evil game thus far, these iconic enemies are known for increasing the challenge level. One would assume that Capcom would incorporate them for higher difficulty settings, but they haven’t done so yet. Luckily, Requiem seems to offer an opportunity for us to encounter them once more.

Currently, it’s crucial to emphasize that there’s no definitive information suggesting a comeback of Crimson Heads. Officially, Capcom has remained silent on the matter, and the initial hints don’t provide enough evidence for fans to speculate about their beloved monster. However, we do know that Capcom was developing multiple new monsters for the Resident Evil 2 Remake, some of which were unfortunately left out due to time constraints.

Among these antagonists, the Condemned are arguably the most notorious. Originally intended to torment Sherry Birkin during the Orphanage segment, they were eventually replaced by Brian Irons, who proved to be a formidable adversary. Few details are known about another potential villain that was initially conceived, but the artwork suggests a young Licker in its early stages of shedding its human exterior.

In contrast to Lickers, Crimson Heads are not evolutionary offshoots but rather distinct creatures birthed from a unique strain of the T-Virus. Unlike Pokémon, they don’t transform into each other. It should be noted that even in Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom has shown an inclination towards innovating fresh versions of their classic monsters.

When returning to Raccoon City after three decades, Capcom is likely to balance creating something fresh with evoking nostalgia. Introducing Crimson Heads once again, after more than two decades, could be an effective way for the developer to achieve this equilibrium in their enemy design. This move would delight veteran players who recognize the scenario, while also giving new players a similar heart-pounding experience that original fans felt in 2002.

In Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom might surprise us by referencing past events in various creative ways. They could lead us back to Spencer Mansion, resurrect Albert Wesker, or even bring Lisa Trevor back. The possibilities are endless for nostalgic references. As fans, we can only hope that these callbacks are tastefully done and don’t simply retread the same plot points from two decades ago.
