ModNation Racers was a scrappy but outrageously popular kart racer on the PS3.
This game was a key part of Sony’s strategy to encourage players to create and share content. It let users customize everything from characters to race tracks and vehicles. Interestingly, it was first created by United Front Games, the team known for the game Sleeping Dogs.
However, the service stopped working in 2018, making the release largely unusable because many important features were no longer available.
Dedicated fans have discovered a solution to restore the game to its original functionality by using private servers. Initial reactions on Reddit have been very positive, showing that many players are returning and filling up online lobbies.
To join, simply change your PS3’s DNS setting to 45.32.179.33. You can find detailed instructions and more information here. Please note that you’ll need a legitimate copy of the game to play.
