New Horizons, many players enjoy collaborating with friends in-game. However, not all family-friendly games offer multiplayer functionality, but when they do, it’s a significant selling point often emphasized in marketing campaigns. Lately, a game initially offering multiplayer support announced that online services will be discontinued. And unsurprisingly, fans are disappointed.
The subject at hand is “Fae Farm”, a life simulation game developed by Phoenix Labs that delves into fantasy realms. Debuted on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch in 2023, it was subsequently released for PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2024. Despite not being as popular as games like “Stardew Valley”, life sim enthusiasts have been drawn to “Fae Farm” because of its magical aspects and multiplayer features. Intriguingly, the game has gone on sale quite recently, inciting many casual gamers to add it to their collection for a shared gaming experience with friends and companions. Regrettably, that shared experience is soon to be phased out.
Fae Farm will no longer have multiplayer starting September

On August 12th, a significant update was made to Fae Farm’s Steam page with a title exclaiming “Important Announcement!”. Before players delve into any other information about the game, they will first encounter this announcement. It states that Fae Farm will be shutting down on September 10, 2025, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Consequently, the online cooperative service will cease to exist, and the game will no longer receive any further updates. Although this news might not have been entirely unexpected, it hasn’t exactly been met with enthusiasm by fans.
Fae Farm Shuts Down Following Phoenix Labs Layoffs
Hey there, gaming community! As a die-hard fan of Fae Farm, I’ve noticed something unusual. The official social media channels for this game have been eerily silent since December 2024, and it’s been a while since we’ve received an update – all the way back in late 2024. This quiet spell might be related to the hurdles Phoenix Labs, the creative minds behind our cherished fantasy farming sim, are currently facing. Keep your fingers crossed for them, fellow gamers!
In May 2024, multiple projects at the studio were terminated, allegedly to concentrate efforts on boosting the success of games such as Fae Farm. Unfortunately, a second wave of job cuts occurred at Phenix Labs in January of this year, leading to most employees being let go. The free-to-play game Dauntless was one of the initial projects affected by these layoffs, ceasing operation in May of this year. It appears that Fae Farm may be next.
The positive aspect is that Fae Farm won’t be completely removed from service for now, but there’s a significant change coming up. Unfortunately, one of the popular aspects that attracted numerous gamers – multiplayer mode – will no longer be available in the game. Many players have expressed their discontent upon learning about this decision regarding Fae Farm. One Redditor, who recently bought the game three weeks ago to enjoy it with her husband, commented, “I’m hoping Steam allows refunds. What a disappointment.
A large number of players are sharing similar feelings because they purchased the game primarily for its cooperative play. The game appears to be particularly enjoyed by couples or friends who are far apart, making it disappointing that the multiplayer feature is being discontinued entirely. Given that the game Fae Farm has been available for just two years, with most consoles receiving the game as recently as 2024, it’s especially frustrating for many players.
Those who haven’t purchased the game recently are expressing their desire for a refund due to the removal of one of its key features initially advertised upon release. This decision has left many fans disgruntled. In essence, one fan argues that the developers should at least offer a partial refund to everyone who bought the game.
So far, Phoenix Labs has not disclosed any plans for refunds regarding their game Fae Farm. The latest update on the Steam page seems to be the only official communication about the game’s future. Regrettably, online play and co-op for Fae Farm will cease as of September 10th, marking exactly two years since its initial release.
