I was so excited to hear about this! A game from 2005, a Ubisoft title that came out around the time of a big movie, is getting a total makeover thanks to a dedicated group of fans. It’s rare to see this kind of commitment, but when a game is truly great, people come together to improve it. Usually, it ends up as mods, but this is a full-on overhaul – it’s amazing to see them bring it up to modern standards and make it even better!
Fusion Fix announced on November 17, 2025, that a widescreen fix was now available for the video game King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie. The date was chosen to coincide with the game’s 20th anniversary – it was originally released alongside Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong film. Players who remember the game from its release might recall being pleasantly surprised by its quality, as many movie-based games weren’t very good at the time.
King Kong Is Back Thanks to Fusion Fix’s Widescreen Upgrade

Fusion Fix isn’t just a fan group – they’re dedicated gamers who improve older titles by fixing bugs and technical issues. They’re known for overhauling popular games like Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, bringing them up to modern standards. Now, they’ve applied that same expertise to the 2005 game King Kong, releasing a ‘Widescreen Fix’ that updates the game’s visuals to match the movie’s widescreen format.

The latest update works with both the Gamer’s Edition and Signature Edition of the game. It lets you customize the resolution through the game’s settings and includes a major visual improvement, fixing issues with the aspect ratio, heads-up display, field of view, and video cutscenes. To prevent crashes, a frame rate limiter was added, capping the game at 30 FPS, and a bug causing the camera to shake during the first King Kong encounter has been resolved. Other improvements include the ability to turn off blurring effects and support for direct mouse input.
Most video games based on movies aren’t very good, but Ubisoft’s King Kong is a definite exception. It boasts stunning visuals, beautifully designed environments, and even features voice acting from the original movie’s cast. Players could experience the game as either Jack (played by Adrien Brody) or King Kong himself, making it one of the best movie-based games ever created – it was remarkably innovative for its time. With a recent re-release featuring updated enhancements, it’s absolutely worth revisiting, especially if you didn’t get a chance to play it back in 2005.
I’m so hyped to revisit Peter Jackson’s King Kong! I just left a comment over on the ComicBook Forum and would love to hear what you all think too – come join the discussion!
