Fans Think Star Wars Is Trolling After Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren Comments, And I Can’t Argue

So, a few days ago, Adam Driver dropped a bomb – he apparently pitched a solo Kylo Ren movie a while back. Naturally, fans are pretty upset it never happened, and honestly, who wouldn’t be? Now, the official Star Wars YouTube channel has been posting some…interesting content since he revealed this, and it feels a little like they’re deliberately teasing fans about the scrapped project. I have to say, after seeing the timing of it all, I’m inclined to agree with those who think it’s a bit of a troll move.

I was so excited to see a clip from The Rise of Skywalker pop up on the official Star Wars YouTube channel! It reminded me of one of my favorite scenes – when Rey and Ben Solo, connected by the Force, passed Anakin’s lightsaber back and forth. It was awesome seeing Ben use it to take down the Knights of Ren, and then join up with Rey after she dealt with Palpatine’s guards. It’s a bittersweet moment, though, because right after that, they both ended up getting overpowered by the Emperor.

If you’re wondering why this clip was released now, you’re not alone. Many fans believe it’s a deliberate move, possibly a playful response to recent comments made by Adam Driver.

  • “Are you guys trolling us with the Ben Solo stuff after what Adam said? 💀” – @yancarlos5377
  • “Guys…seriously 😂 we know what you’re doing” – @Ham_Films
  • “what a suspicious thing to share out of nowhere…” – @kylodem
  • “The Star Wars social media guy was working overtime on getting this approved over night 😂” – @BroBastii
  • “this is either the funniest coincidence ever or a very smart move” – @psychedbypat
  • “Wow, Ben Solo is cool and I’d watch a whole Steven Sodenbergh movie about him.” – @RayOfTruth

Okay, so this is wild. I seriously doubt it was just a random thing, but apparently, a few years back, Adam Driver had this whole idea for a movie continuing the Star Wars saga after The Rise of Skywalker. He envisioned bringing Ben Solo – Kylo Ren – back to life somehow. He actually pitched it to Steven Soderbergh, who directed him in Logan Lucky, and they developed a story outline with Rebecca Blunt. Lucasfilm actually loved the pitch, and they brought Scott Z. Burns on board to write the screenplay. Can you believe it? It was going to be called The Hunt for Ben Solo! It’s crazy to think about what could have been.

Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Horn decided not to move forward with The Hunt for Ben Solo project, reportedly because they didn’t believe the character could still be alive. This recent clip seems like a subtle nod to Adam Driver’s announcement about the project, without explicitly confirming it. Whoever came up with this clip has definitely gotten Star Wars fans talking – and excited – again.

Despite Adam Driver stating in 2024 that he’s finished with Star Wars, the recent surge in fan excitement might lead Lucasfilm to revisit the idea of The Hunt for Ben Solo. This could potentially convince Driver to return. It’s likely wishful thinking, but it reminds me of the leaked Deadpool test footage from 2014, which ultimately led 20th Century Fox to make the first Deadpool movie – and Ryan Reynolds has since confessed to being the one who leaked it! Maybe, just maybe, the Force will find a way.
