Good news for fans of the MonsterVerse! The Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will return for its second season next month, as part of the 2026 TV lineup. While we’ll have to wait longer for the next movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which is scheduled for release in spring 2027, some fans believe they’ve predicted who the film’s villain will be – and it would be amazing to see Godzilla and Kong battle them!
A recent discovery on the Writer’s Guild of America website (reported by ScreenRant) suggests the new movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova (previously known as Zeus), will draw inspiration from the “Godzilla” and “Space Godzilla” storylines. While it’s expected that the sixth MonsterVerse film will utilize existing Godzilla material, the specific mention of “Space Godzilla” has sparked excitement. David Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green, already confirmed as the film’s writers, penned the screenplay.

The 1994 Japanese film Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla features the classic giant monster battling a clone created in space. SpaceGodzilla is different from the original Godzilla in several ways: it can shoot a powerful ‘Corona Beam’ from its mouth, fly while encased in a crystal cocoon, and use telekinesis to move objects with its mind, as well as control and create energy. While SpaceGodzilla has appeared in other media like TV shows, video games, and comics, it’s best known for its debut in this film.

Currently, fans are speculating about what’s next in the MonsterVerse, and the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova might reveal the answer. The existence of alien life is already confirmed within the series – Ghidorah, an extraterrestrial creature, battled Godzilla in the distant past and was frozen in Antarctica until the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. While it’s unclear how SpaceGodzilla could fit into this world, it would be exciting to see Godzilla and Kong team up once again to fight him in Supernova. He’s a powerful enough threat to warrant their collaboration, much like MechaGodzilla and the Skar King before him.
I’m a little worried the MonsterVerse is starting to rely too heavily on villains who are just evil versions of Godzilla and Kong, but that won’t stop me from buying a ticket to their next movie! The human cast of Supernova includes returning actor Dan Stevens, as well as newcomers Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill. This time, Grant Sputore directed the film, taking over from Adam Wingard, who directed the previous two Godzilla/Kong movies.
I’m already getting hyped for Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, even though it’s not out until March 2027! I’m really hoping we find out in 2026 if rumors about SpaceGodzilla appearing are true. It would be incredible to see that classic villain get a big-budget Hollywood makeover, and honestly, the idea of Godzilla or Kong battling in space? Yes, please! Seriously, just tell me it’s happening and I’m throwing money at the screen.
