Casting is now underway for the new Resident Evil movie from Sony, which is being made by their in-house production company, PS Productions.
Paul Walter Hauser, known for his recent roles in movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Naked Gun, is joining Austin Abrams in a fresh adaptation of Capcom’s popular Resident Evil series.
We don’t yet know what roles the two actors will have, but the movie is set to come out on September 18th, 2026, which is only about a year away.
Zach Cregger, known for his work as a weapons director, is set to direct the film. He’s collaborating with Shay Hatten on the screenplay.
We don’t have any information about what the story will be yet, but the creator told Entertainment Weekly that this new installment will have a completely fresh and original plot.
He says:
People who know my work will immediately recognize my style in this project, but it’s set within the world of Resident Evil. I believe fans of the games will enjoy it. I’m not planning to take existing characters like Leon and create new stories for them – that would feel inappropriate. Instead, I want to tell a new Resident Evil story that feels authentic to the established lore and doesn’t contradict anything from the games.
