The abbreviated version of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” film left many fans in awe due to the numerous scenes and moments it omitted. Following the conclusion of “Avengers: Endgame”, Marvel has faced some turbulence, with both audiences and critics expressing mixed feelings about several subsequent projects. However, more recent releases like “Thunderbolts” have sparked optimism that Marvel might be regaining its stride as the Marvel Cinematic Universe hurtles towards “Avengers: Doomsday”, set for release in December next year. This positive trend appears to persist with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, a movie that has garnered favorable reviews from critics.
The latest victory was crucial since the previous Fantastic Four movie on the big screen was disappointing. Preceding ones didn’t fare too well either, but some viewers have reevaluated them in retrospect as acceptable superhero films. Regardless, fans have been eagerly anticipating the Fantastic Four’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debut for a long time, and their arrival carries significant weight for the future. Given its importance, the initial reception had to be positive. Despite favorable reviews and expectations of a big opening weekend, there’s a simmering debate on social media about it.
Fantastic Four Fans Are Confused By How Many Scenes Were Cut from the Movie
After initial viewings of the film, viewers started noticing several missing scenes from The Fantastic Four. This included the removal of John Malkovich’s character, Red Ghost, entirely, a decision that surprised many, given Malkovich’s past association with Marvel. In fact, he was initially cast as Vulture in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4. However, it wasn’t just scenes featuring Malkovich that were cut. Some fans on social media even suggested that the film’s opening montage appears to contain parts of deleted scenes, as Malkovich’s character is directly referenced in this sequence.
In the initial trailer for The Fantastic Four, it’s noticeable that much of the shown footage doesn’t actually appear in the movie, or if it does, it’s used differently than what was suggested in the trailer (for example, The Thing watching video clips of events before he gained his powers on TV). Fans have also spotted photos from the set that don’t seem to correspond with any scenes in The Fantastic Four. Additionally, Vanessa Kirby discussed a scene involving Mole Man that she loved dearly but ended up being removed from the final film.
Notably absent from the film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is the widely advertised “Sunday dinner” scene that had been a focus of Marvel’s marketing for months. In the initial teaser, Reed Richards and Sue Storm are seen giving a tour to someone and discussing their weekly routine with them, mentioning that they always have dinner together on Sundays at the same time. For some reason, this scene was not included in the final movie. Additionally, in the trailer, Reed Richards says he “stretched the bounds of space and they heard,” which seems to suggest that he may have played a role in Galactus targeting Earth or perhaps was referring to another threat. However, without further context provided in the film, it remains unclear what exactly he meant.

Re-watching the Fantastic Four teaser trailer once more, it’s striking how many scenes were removed from the final movie. Couldn’t they have made the film LONGER instead?

One of the moments I was eagerly anticipating from the trailers, unfortunately didn’t make it to the final movie cut.

The opening segment of Fantastic Four appears to have been unconventionally structured, with an extended sequence that seems like leftovers from cut scenes. While the remaining parts are generally well-done, visually it falls short, particularly when compared to the stunning visuals in the Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer.

It seems like significant portions have been omitted from the previews of Fantastic Four’s First Steps, including some exciting elements that were particularly noteworthy.

Although the sequence was remarkable, it failed to stir much emotion within me. It seemed to lack around 25 minutes to fully engage me. Moreover, the mid-credit scene appeared rather inconsiderate.
