The movie “Superman” has made a strong debut at the box office, but it’s about to face stiff competition from Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. This new movie aims to bring the well-known comic book group to the big screen for the third time, and they’re hoping it will endure longer than its predecessors. One key difference that sets “First Steps ” apart from previous “Fantastic Four” films is its faithful adaptation of quirky characters like Mole Man. Additionally, other villains are also preparing for their grand entrances, as Galactus is finally set to make his entrance in all his purple splendor.
So far, the marketing strategy for “First Steps” has given the impression that the Devourer of Worlds only cares about Earth. But then Silver Surfer arrives and starts preparing Earth for its demise, alerting everyone to the impending doom. However, the latest trailer for “First Steps” hints that Galactus might grab a keepsake from his favorite dining spot before he leaves.
Galactus May Be After Power in Fantastic Four: First Steps
Marvel Studios maintains its nostalgic vibe with the latest glimpse of First Steps, offering a peek reminiscent of a ’60s TV commercial. This sneak peek previews the thrilling elements viewers can expect from the upcoming film, featuring action and romance. Although much of the trailer uses recycled footage, there’s one shot that might offer crucial insights into Galactus’ character. In this scene, he stands outside the Baxter Building, where H.E.R.B.I.E. keeps a watchful eye over Franklin Richards. Galactus seems intrigued by the baby, peering in for a closer look, yet it is unlikely that his interest lies in the baby’s charm; instead, he appears captivated by the immense power that gazes back at him.
Although he might seem diminutive in size, Franklin stands among Marvel Comics’ mightiest figures. He possesses the ability to manipulate reality at will, even going so far as to generate entire universes when needed. His encounters with Galactus are numerous within the comics, with one instance even showing Franklin temporarily taking over for the Devourer of Worlds in a specific universe. The two characters share a mutual admiration due to their shared understanding of the challenges that come with possessing immense power. It’s challenging to imagine First Steps‘ Galactus engaging in a profound dialogue with an infant, suggesting that he may be more interested in utilizing Franklin’s powers for his own purposes – a theory that many fans have proposed.
Galactus desires Franklin because the boy has the ability to create infinite worlds for him to devour, eliminating the need for Galactus to traverse the universe in search of sustenance. Having Franklin by his side would be advantageous for Galactus, but Reed Richards and Susan Storm, Franklin’s parents, are unlikely to agree. However, even if they manage to drive Galactus away, other villains may still seek to acquire Franklin.
The MCU’s Next Big Bad May Have His Eye on Franklin Richards
In my perspective as a fan, there have been numerous intriguing hypotheses about the spaceship that descends into Earth-616’s atmosphere at the conclusion of “Thunderbolts”. While it may seem straightforward that the Fantastic Four were forced to depart from their realm following Galactus’ consumption, this scenario wouldn’t bode well for them if they lost in their initial appearance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To avoid such an outcome, a theory has been proposed: Marvel’s First Family might not even be on that spaceship at all! Instead, Doctor Doom could be at the helm, with Franklin by his side. Perhaps the confrontation with Galactus sparked Doom’s awareness of Franklin’s existence, and given that the multiverse is likely to be the antagonist in “Avengers: Doomsday”, he would undeniably want the child on his side.
If Doom abducts Franklin, it’ll likely push the Fantastic Four to find partners like the New Avengers and Sam Wilson’s squad, who wouldn’t want the multiverse to be annihilated. However, this is just a hypothesis based on a single scene from the trailer. It’s unlikely that Galactus would need to set foot on Earth if his intention was solely to consume it. Instead, he might simply watch as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most potent character disappears due to his hunger.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25th.
