Fantastic Four Star Addresses Galactus’ Future in the MCU

Is Galactus the primary antagonist in this summer’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” and could he potentially appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond this film? Actor Ralph Ineson, who portrays Galactus in the upcoming movie, hinted at a possible return in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Although Galactus has a rich comic book history, Ineson hasn’t been informed about any plans to reintroduce his take on the Devourer of Worlds. While he would be excited to continue playing the role, he understands that the decision rests with Kevin Feige and his team.

Inneson stated that there’s much to discover within the lore, and he plays a significant role in the entire cosmos. However, he admitted he wouldn’t be the most informed about whether or not Galactus will return. That decision, he explained, is for Kevin [Feige] and the higher-ups. But, of course, he would jump at the opportunity to reprise his role as Galactus again.

Marvel intentionally concealed Galactus in the trailers and TV spots for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but fans got a clearer glimpse through tie-in materials like collectibles. However, the menace of this villain has been a crucial element of the promotional strategy from the start. The promos have hinted at Galactus’ comic-book authentic depiction, emphasizing his plan that involves taking baby Franklin Richards in exchange for Earth-828’s protection.

It’s been confirmed that the cast of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who portray the four members of the superhero team, will return for both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” As of now, Marvel has not disclosed whether any other actors from the film, like Ineson or Julia Garner (Silver Surfer), will reprise their roles in the future.

In the storyline of “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Galactus plays a significant role, and it seems that Marvel Studios has merely hinted at Galactus’s full potential. Being one of Marvel’s most formidable characters, there’s much more to explore about him, especially his rivalry with Doctor Doom, which could make for an exciting on-screen portrayal according to Ineson. The directors of “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” the Russo brothers, might draw from these storylines in their upcoming Avengers films, thereby creating a captivating conflict between two of Marvel’s top villains. Although Ineson wasn’t initially announced as part of the cast for “Doomsday,” there are hints that more actors will be revealed soon. After “First Steps” hits theaters, Marvel might disclose more details about Galactus’s future appearances.

A compelling fan theory suggests that in the universe of Earth-828, Galactus manages to destroy Earth, leading the Fantastic Four and baby Franklin to flee to Earth-616 for safety. If Galactus survives the events of “First Steps,” he may continue hunting Franklin across multiple realities, potentially encountering either the Avengers or Doctor Doom in future stories like “Doomsday” or “Secret Wars.” However, these films already have a lot to handle, as “Doomsday” involves several superhero teams and needs to introduce Downey’s Doom as a threat. Adding another major villain to share the spotlight could be distracting. The Russo brothers have shown they can manage large Marvel casts, but there comes a point where it becomes too complex. Nevertheless, excluding Galactus entirely from future films would be disappointing, as there’s so much creative potential in bringing him back.
