In the upcoming Marvel film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, the original superhero team will encounter one of their arch-nemeses. Meanwhile, a fresh theory has surfaced that may shed light on why Galactus and the Silver Surfer consistently target Earth within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, it was announced that Ralph Ineson and Julia Garner would be portraying Galactus and Shalla-Bal’s Silver Surfer in the film, following confirmation of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Marvel’s Fantastic Four team. The arrival of the cosmic entity Galactus has sparked great anticipation, but it also leaves many unanswered questions up in the air.
A novel idea proposes an intriguing reason for why Galactus selects Earth as his next feast in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. @comicodigy on Instagram offers this theory, stating that Galactus and the Silver Surfer may be drawn to Earth following the birth of Franklin Richards, whose powers could provide Galactus with an endless food source. In the upcoming live-action film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, Franklin Richards, who possesses the ability to create new worlds and realities, will make his debut. With this power, he could potentially serve as Galactus’ personal chef.
In 1968, Franklin Richards first appeared in Fantastic Four Annual #6 within the realm of Marvel Comics. As Franklin matured, he manifested remarkable mutant abilities such as shaping reality, manipulating matter, and constructing pocket universes – these capabilities were particularly intriguing because they allowed him to generate whole worlds for Galactus to devour. Given this potential, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Devourer sought Franklin out to seize him from his family, exploiting his powers as fuel. The introduction of Franklin Richards in the MCU could significantly shake up the franchise, considering he ranks among Marvel’s mightiest characters; Galactus could potentially tap into this immense power.
As a die-hard Marvel Comics fan, I’d say it goes like this: Once upon cosmic times, I was Galan – a survivor from an earlier universe, living witness to the Big Crunch and Big Bang. Merged with the Sentience of the Universe, I emerged reborn as Galactus, realizing my new form required entire planets for sustenance. So, I gathered Heralds, like the Silver Surfer, to hunt for suitable worlds across the cosmos. In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” my quest brings me to Earth.
In the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, it’s uncertain whether Galactus will abduct Franklin Richards or not. However, there’s buzz that the Phase 6 film might culminate with Galactus consuming our 1960s-retro inspired Earth, a disaster that could thrust the Fantastic Four into the main timeline of Earth-616 for their debut in the MCU. This sets the stage for their appearance in “Avengers: Doomsday” in 2026, which doesn’t bode well for Marvel’s original family in their inaugural MCU journey. We’ll know more soon as “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
