Good news for fans of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time! After its third season finished airing on Prime Video last May, and initial concerns about cancellation, the show has been renewed and will continue.
Recent updates from Randland might disappoint fans. Variety reports that the new projects won’t be continuations of the live-action series with Rosamund Pike and Josha Stradowski.
Rather than another live-action show, the fantasy world will grow through a new video game, several animated movies, and an animated TV series.
Producer Thomas Vu, famous for his contributions to Arcane and League of Legends, will lead the new projects in partnership with iwot Studios, the owner of the intellectual property.
Vu shared a preview of early artwork of Rand al’Thor, the Dragon Reborn, created by iwot Studios. The art style, similar to the visually striking animation in Arcane, uses a detailed, painterly digital technique.
The projects will be created through a new partnership between iwot, Vu, and Anthony Borquez’s company, Initiate Entertainment. They’ll also be working with Rick Selvage, CEO of iwot Studios, and Larry Mondragon, the studio’s COO, both of whom previously produced the live-action series.

The news comes after a successful online petition (#SaveWOT) gained traction. Fans asked Sony Pictures Television, Prime Video, and other streaming services to bring back the show, either on Prime Video or another platform.
In addition to raising over $32,800 for billboards through GoFundMe, a petition gathered more than 200,000 signatures, demonstrating the strong dedication of the franchise’s fans.
Vu is currently working on a new video game for both computers and mobile devices, plus some film and TV shows. As of today, those shows don’t have confirmed streaming platforms or distribution deals yet.
iwot has clarified that these new projects are distinct from other previously announced Wheel of Time ventures. These include the 3D animated prequel, The White Tower, a live-action movie called The Dark One (which focuses on the Dark One’s origins and the Forsaken), and a large-scale, open-world RPG being developed by iwot Games Montréal.

Variety reports that these new projects are designed to expand the franchise’s audience and connect with fans globally.
Vu believes there’s a huge potential to build on ‘The Wheel of Time’ by creating immersive stories that are truly authentic, connect seamlessly with the original work, and allow fans to interact with the world through animation and other experiences.
“The depth of the mythology provides a foundation for sustained, multi-platform franchise growth.”
According to iwot Studios CEO Rick Selvage, Thomas has a proven talent for building compelling stories into successful, worldwide entertainment brands.
He has a rare combination of skills in storytelling, technology, and building successful franchises, which makes him perfect for expanding The Wheel of Time into exciting new experiences.
We’re excited to collaborate with Thomas and Anthony as we create the next season of ‘The Wheel of Time’ for viewers everywhere.
Fans are hoping Thomas Vu and iwot Studios can bring back actors from the original live-action series to voice characters in the new projects, especially since those actors have publicly expressed their disappointment about the show ending.
The story continues to unfold, and while it might not be exactly what fans expected, this marks a thrilling new beginning as an animated series.
The Wheel of Time seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Prime Video.
