It seems a TV series inspired by Ubisoft’s Far Cry video game series is in development, spearheaded by Noah Hawley, renowned for his work on “Fargo” and “Alien: Earth”. We’re experiencing a golden age for video game adaptations right now. “The Last of Us”, despite some fan disagreement over the latest season, has been garnering awards, while “Fallout” offers a witty take on sci-fi drama. Even Resident Evil is getting a cinema reboot in the coming year, with Zach Cregger at the helm, who directed one of 2025’s top-grossing horror films. It’s almost surprising to see how respectfully games are being adapted now, given that the genre was notoriously poor around a decade ago.
Ubisoft is making an effort to approach movie and TV production more thoughtfully, as evidenced by their new live-action adaptations of Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs (which has already been filmed). However, they’ve had some bumps in the road with past projects. For instance, there was a poorly received Assassin’s Creed movie and other game adaptations like Splinter Cell and The Division that were stuck in development limbo for extended periods.
Far Cry TV Series in the Works at FX With Alien: Earth’s Noah Hawley

It seems that Ubisoft is planning a TV adaptation for one of their most popular intellectual properties, with FX developing a Far Cry series. As reported by users on Reddit who claim to have seen a now-deleted post from Ubisoft’s website, the series will be co-created by Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney, who stars in the show while serving as showrunner for Hawley. Each season of the Far Cry TV series is expected to feature a new location and set of characters, adhering to the game’s anthology storytelling format.
Boykin, head of Ubisoft Film & Television content, describes this collaboration as a “treasure trove of opportunities.” He explains that “Far Cry” delves deep into the psychological turmoil of humanity, unflinchingly exploring its darkest and most absurd aspects. This, he notes, fits perfectly with FX’s daring and fearless approach to storytelling.
Hawley has previously ventured into this style of storytelling, having developed FX’s “Fargo,” a series that presents standalone tales and introduces new characters each season. This background makes him an ideal choice for the show in question, but if he intends to work on additional seasons of “Alien: Earth” and Far Cry, his schedule could become quite full. It remains undecided whether the Far Cry TV series will draw from the games or continue their narratives. Given this, it might provide some insight into popular characters like Vaas, particularly since Michael Mando, who played Vaas, has been gaining significant attention recently with “Better Call Saul” and his upcoming role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
