During Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast, Koei Tecmo’s Makoto Shibata discussed the enhancements made in the remake of *Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly*. You can watch the details below.
Similar to the first game, you’ll use the Camera Obscura to take pictures of ghosts and trap them. Changing the camera’s focus and zoom level is important, as different spirits require different settings to capture.
This updated version of the game features improved gameplay and more fluid animations thanks to Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. They’ve also made the game more challenging and refined the controls. Players will find even more to collect and explore, plus a new feature called “Holding Hands With Mayu.”
This feature was originally planned to release with the game but was ultimately removed. Although the exact impact on gameplay isn’t known yet, it would have strengthened the connection between Mio and her sister.
I’m so hyped! Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is officially coming out in early 2026, and it’s hitting pretty much every platform – Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and even the new Nintendo Switch 2! I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
