SNK has dropped a new animated teaser suggesting a major crossover is coming to the fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. The short video shows a gritty, polluted city where two children are threatened by bullies. Just as the situation escalates, a mysterious figure intervenes, and the fighting move they use strongly hints that the character is Kenshiro, the hero from the classic manga Fist of the North Star.
This attack style strongly resembles the pressure-point fighting techniques Kenshiro uses in Fist of the North Star. The animated short even uses a sound effect similar to the one from the anime. If Kenshiro joins Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, we can anticipate his fighting will focus on quick, powerful strikes designed to inflict significant damage with each hit.
In the anime Fist of the North Star, the main character Kenshiro practices a fighting style called Hokuto Shinken. He initially dreams of a peaceful life with his love, Yuria, but trouble begins when his enemy, Shin, defeats him and kidnaps Yuria. This forces Kenshiro to journey across the world to find her, and to thwart Shin’s increasingly dangerous plans.
SNK hasn’t revealed much about their recent teaser, keeping even the video title and description minimal. So far, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has primarily featured characters from Street Fighter, with Chun-Li and Ken added to the game last year. The hint of a manga character joining the roster suggests SNK might be broadening the types of characters they include in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is the newest installment in a fighting game series that hadn’t seen a release in over two decades. Released last year, this game builds on the foundation of 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves with several enhancements, most notably a new REV system. This system gives players fresh ways to attack and defend, including special moves like REV Arts, REV Accel, and REV Blows.
