As a devoted fan of classic comedies, I’m thrilled to share that Fawlty Towers: The Play is scheduled to air on U&Gold this month as part of the sitcom’s 50th anniversary festivities. And guess what? We finally have an exact date for its arrival!
Starting this coming Friday, 19th September, you’ll have the opportunity to catch the hit stage play that premiered in May 2024 and is now running again in the West End, right here on U&GOLD.
Fawlty Towers: The Stage Adaptation,” penned by John Cleese himself, draws inspiration from memorable episodes such as “The Hotel Inspectors,” “Communication Troubles,” and “The Germans.” An introduction to the play will be provided by none other than Cleese himself.
In this live broadcast on U&Gold, you’ll see the original cast members bring the play to life. Adam Jackson-Smith portrays Basil, Anna-Jane Casey plays Sybil, Hemi Yeroham takes on the role of Manuel, and Victoria Fox is Polly.

Following the triumphant return of the sitcom on the West End stage, it has been disclosed that John Cleese is currently developing a new stage production of Fawlty Towers, featuring an additional three episodes from the original series.
Discussing the project, Cleese stated that they combined popular elements like Mrs. Richards, The Germans, and The Food Inspectors, which were originally staged in the West End, to create the show.
Cleese mentioned that he anticipates the release of the sequel to occur within the following 18 months, and clarified that it will not be staged at the same time as “Fawlty Towers: The Play.
He added: “Given its remarkable success, I proposed, ‘Why don’t we create another three programs?’ We could certainly replicate this, but not concurrently. Perhaps a year and a half from now?
