For the very first time on television, Fawlty Towers: The Play will be broadcast as a part of the 50th anniversary tribute to this beloved sitcom.
U&Gold plans to celebrate by capturing a live, high-quality performance from the original cast of the West End show.
The two-hour broadcast of “Fawlty Towers: The Play” is set to air in September, with the full endorsement and participation of its co-creator and star, John Cleese. He expressed his delight over the positive reception of the play since its premiere on the West End and is thrilled that U&Gold will now bring it directly into people’s homes, timed perfectly for the 50th anniversary.
In the narrative for both the TV show and stage production, Fawlty Towers hotel in Torquay, Devon is managed by Basil and Sybil Fawlty (portrayed by John Cleese and Prunella Scales on screen) who deal with a mix of clumsy guests and employees.

The production features key installments from our popular series, including “The Hotel Inspector,” “The Germans,” and “Communication Issues.
In May 2024, Fawlty Towers: The Play makes its debut, with plans for a nationwide tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland scheduled for the remainder of the year.
The upcoming show on U&Gold introduces Adam Jackson-Smith playing Basil, Anna-Jane Casey portraying Sybil, Hemi Yeroham in the role of the somewhat clumsy but good-hearted waiter Manuel, and Victoria Fox as the practical and wise maid Polly.

Gerald Casey, head of programming, comedy, and entertainment at UKTV, expressed excitement about the upcoming presentation: “Fawlty Towers is a fundamental piece of British humor, and we feel privileged to be where TV viewers can first watch this new stage adaptation to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.
“With the legendary John Cleese at the helm, U&Gold viewers are really in for something special.”
