Kiana Madeira is eager to return for a potential fifth Fear Street movie and finally solve the central mystery of the series.
The horror series on Netflix is inspired by the books of R.L. Stine, and follows Deena, her brother, and their friends in the town of Shadyside. They accidentally become the next targets of a centuries-old curse connected to Sarah Fier. Because the first three movies were so popular, Netflix created a separate story, Fear Street: Prom Queen, and R.L. Stine has hinted at even more films being planned for the series.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns about her role in Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, actress Madeira discussed the Fear Street horror series. When asked about the possibility of a fifth Fear Street movie and who she believes took the book of Satanic rituals at the end of Part Three, Madeira jokingly admitted that her answer to the second question often changes.
She mentioned two theories about who might have taken the book. She particularly liked the idea that someone from the Goode family could be responsible, hoping they were trying to restore their family’s long history of success after the Sarah Fier curse was broken. She also thought Cindy Berman was a strong suspect, pointing out that Cindy still has a lot of unresolved emotional pain from her sister’s death in the second film and her own near-death experience.
Madeira then asked what we thought about who stole the book in the mid-credits scene of Part Three. We suggested Rachel Doman, author of Queen of Air and Darkness, because her character knows about Sarah Fier, just like Benjamin Flores Jr.’s Josh. Madeira thought it was a “great” idea and a “great way to introduce a new character.” When asked if she’s been officially asked to return, she said there haven’t been any formal talks, but she and the other actors often discuss the possibility.
Kiana Madeira and her co-star, Scott Welch, often discuss the possibility of revisiting their roles. They both really want to, and have lots of ideas about how to bring the story back. They’d love to do it for the fans, but also because playing Deena and Sam again would be amazing. Hopefully, there’s room for it in the future, and they’re exploring what might be possible.
The first three Fear Street movies wrapped up the storylines for characters Deena and Sam pretty neatly, as they were filmed all at once. But the ending of the third film hinted at a fourth movie, showing someone taking a mysterious book. Instead, the 2025 film Prom Queen will be a prequel of sorts, based on R.L. Stine’s novel and set in 1988. This is a departure from the original trilogy, which took place in 1994.
Since the first movies came out five years ago, fans have come up with many ideas about who took the book. Some popular theories point to Josh, Deena, or Sam, suggesting the survivors tried to stop the killings from continuing in Shadyside for years to come. Others, like those proposed by Madeira, believe Cindy or someone from the Goode family was responsible. Even ScreenRant has offered a theory connecting it to the ‘Queen of Air and Darkness’ character.
Although Fear Street: Prom Queen felt like a standalone story, it might have actually been setting up another plotline involving the cursed book. The ending showed blood from the villain, Nancy, forming the Witch’s Mark – a symbol connected to the Goode family’s long history of evil. Since Dan, played by Chris Klein, was the only survivor in the 2025 film, it’s possible he returned to retrieve the book and bring his family back to life.
The series Prom Queen suggested the creators might move towards standalone stories for future installments. However, they haven’t ruled out revisiting the original characters and plot. The latest Fear Street film, made with a new team, received mostly negative reviews, currently scoring only 27% from critics and 24% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite some criticism, the show found a moderate audience in its first month. However, it didn’t connect with viewers as strongly as the original trilogy, leading to speculation that the next installment might return to the story of Deena and her friends. With many unanswered questions about who possesses the cursed book and the potential for another time-traveling narrative involving past killers, stars Maya Madeira and Olivia Welch may get the chance to reprise their roles in a future film.
