Enough chit-chat: here are our recommendations for the Critics’ Choice sale.
1000xRESIST (PS5)
$13.99/£11.19 (-30%)
1000xRESIST truly prioritizes its story, and that dedication makes it one of the most engaging and fascinating games you can play. Set in a sci-fi world where a deadly disease nearly destroys humanity, the game follows a sole survivor who rebuilds society underground using cloning technology. While it blends visual novel sections with exploration and isn’t overly difficult, the compelling narrative makes it a worthwhile experience.
A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5)
$9.99/£8.74 (-75%)
A Plague Tale: Innocence is a delightful surprise – a truly impressive historical adventure with characters you’ll genuinely care about and clever, innovative stealth gameplay. While the fantasy elements and the ending might not appeal to all players, Asobo Studio’s fantastic use of the PlayStation 5 – including the DualSense controller – makes this a standout title for anyone who enjoys story-driven games.
Hey, just a heads-up! I sometimes include links to stuff I recommend, and if you happen to click one and buy something, I might get a small cut. It helps me keep the site running, but I always want to be upfront about it. You can find more details on my FTC Disclosure page if you’re curious.
Age of Mythology: Retold (PS5)
$19.49/£14.61 (-35%)
Age of Mythology: Retold is a beautifully updated version of the classic 2002 strategy game. It features enhanced graphics, redesigned units, and new animations, making it a great experience for both longtime fans and new players.
Baldur’s Gate 3 (PS5)
$52.49/£43.49 (-25%)
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a truly exceptional role-playing game, excelling in nearly every way. When it’s at its best, it’s one of the most immersive RPG experiences you can have. While its deliberate pace might not appeal to all players, it raises the standard for how much freedom a game offers. The journey to Baldur’s Gate is unforgettable, filled with compelling characters and a fantastic story. It’s a landmark title in the RPG genre.
Battlefield 6 (PS5)
$45.49/£45.49 (-35%)
As a long-time Battlefield fan, I have to say Battlefield 6 is incredible! It’s a truly immersive multiplayer experience – the gunfights feel amazing, the sound design is top-notch, and it really captures that epic, cinematic feel we all loved in previous games. The single-player campaign isn’t anything special, and the Portal feature still needs a bit of work to really shine, but honestly, they’re just bonuses on top of what is easily the best Battlefield game we’ve seen in over ten years.
Black Myth: Wukong (PS5)
$44.99/£41.24 (-25%)
Before its release, Black Myth: Wukong looked incredible, and it largely lives up to the hype. It’s a fun and engaging action game with satisfying character development, fast-paced fighting, and epic boss battles – putting it among the best in the genre. While a few design choices prevent it from being a masterpiece, it’s a remarkably well-made game from Game Science and leaves us eager to see what they do next.
Borderlands 3 (PS5)
$5.99/£5.99 (-90%)
Borderlands 3 delivers the classic Gearbox looter-shooter experience, and it’s never looked or played better, especially on PS5. While it doesn’t reinvent the series, it’s arguably the best installment yet. Shooting feels fantastic, there’s a huge amount of quests and weapons to discover, and the game retains its unique, often divisive, sense of humor. The PS5 version really stands out with enhanced graphics and smooth performance up to 120fps. If you’re looking for a great co-op shooter, this is hard to beat – it’s incredibly fun with friends, both in person and online.
Borderlands 4 (PS5)
$48.99/£48.99 (-30%)
The latest Borderlands game offers a fresh take on the series with a large, open world to discover as you search for powerful new weapons and gear. While it still feels like Borderlands, the game has been polished and improved, offering a more streamlined experience. If you enjoy the series’ unique style, you’ll likely enjoy this installment, even though it doesn’t drastically change the core gameplay.
Castlevania Dominus Collection (PS5)
$17.49/£13.99 (-30%)
If you owned a Nintendo DS, you probably remember the fantastic Castlevania games it offered – some of the best in the series. Now, PlayStation fans can experience those same classics with the Castlevania Dominus Collection. This bundle includes Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia, and Haunted Castle, offering tons of gameplay with exploration, hidden secrets, and challenging boss battles. Featuring beautiful pixel art, customizable weapons, creative enemy designs, and well-crafted levels, this collection is a must-have for any fan of Metroidvania-style games.
Catherine: Full Body (PS4)
$7.99/£6.99 (-80%)
Catherine: Full Body is a unique and expanded version of Atlus’ original game, blending an interactive story with challenging block puzzles. You play as Vincent, a man in his early thirties who’s struggling with commitment. His wavering loyalty leads to bizarre, terrifying nightmares where he must climb dangerous block towers to survive. It’s a strange and thought-provoking game, but the puzzles are surprisingly fun and the story can be really captivating.
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector (PS5)
$14.99/£11.99 (-40%)
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is an improved and expanded RPG that builds upon the strengths of the first game. It tells a captivating story focused on its characters, set in a bleak but fascinating sci-fi world. The game’s innovative dice mechanic makes every decision feel risky and meaningful. You’ll travel to different locations, meet a diverse cast of characters, and face challenging side quests that add depth to the main storyline. If you enjoy games with a lot of reading, this one offers a deeply immersive experience.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (PS5)
$39.99/£35.99 (-20%)
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a classic turn-based RPG, drawing inspiration from both modern and older games. It tells a mysterious story of a group journeying through a magical world to stop the dangerous Paintress and her ticking clock. The game boasts strong characters, a compelling story, and great music, but it’s the combat that really shines. Each character has unique abilities that work well with the rest of the team, and the active combat system – featuring quick-time events and dodging/parrying – keeps battles exciting. While not perfect, Clair Obscur is a must-play for RPG fans.
Cocoon (PS5)
$12.49/£9.99 (-50%)
Cocoon is a beautifully designed puzzle game where you play as a space bug. You collect orbs and can actually travel inside them, discovering entirely new worlds within each one. These worlds contain their own puzzles, and you’ll need to move between them, even nesting worlds inside each other, to progress. With incredibly simple controls and no spoken or written words, Cocoon is an intuitive, unforgettable experience.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (PS4)
$13.99/£12.24 (-65%)
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a fantastic remake of the original PlayStation game. It’s a genuinely fun trip down memory lane, whether you’re drifting around the lovingly recreated tracks in the extensive Adventure mode or competing online. Like the classic PS1 version, it’s a fast-paced arcade racer with precise controls, a surprising challenge, and plenty of content. While a few updates could have been made, it’s easily one of the best kart racers available on PS4.
Date Everything (PS5)
$19.49/£19.49 (-35%)
Date Everything is a unique dating sim where you can build relationships – friendships or romances – with surprisingly charming human-like versions of everyday objects. Featuring fantastic art and voice acting from popular performers, this lighthearted visual novel offers something for all kinds of players.
