Platinum Trophy #11: Spyro the Dragon (Reignited Trilogy)
Date Earned: 18th November 2018
Dopamine Index:
I was super fortunate as a kid to have an original PlayStation. But honestly, the games I played were all thanks to my parents’ good taste – they picked out everything!
Our collection was a real mix of good and bad games. The PlayStation 1 had many fantastic titles, but also quite a few that weren’t very good.
Luckily, we somehow got a copy of Spyro the Dragon, and it quickly became one of our favorite games.
Because my parents were often guessing what games I’d enjoy, I never had the chance to play Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer or Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
I want to explain why I spent most of my time playing the first Spyro game in the Reignited Trilogy. After enjoying Spyro 1, I tried the other games, but they didn’t evoke the same nostalgic feeling for me.
But man, I had a really good time replaying the first one.
Even now, the game feels special compared to other 3D platformers; its movement style and character abilities are unlike anything else you’ll find.
The game’s layout is a bit different from most, featuring expansive central areas that branch out into smaller, more exploratory levels. It emphasizes relaxed, free-form discovery.
When I was a kid, I used to love just wandering around each level, not really having a plan. Because of that, I got to know the early stages really well. This remake nails it, as far as I remember, and it was awesome seeing a game from my childhood looking so detailed and new.
I decided to get the platinum trophy in the first Spyro game because I wanted to earn it for a game I’ve enjoyed since I was around eight years old.
This achievement seems to require completing absolutely everything in the game, which is a classic and enjoyable goal for a 3D platformer.
Spyro isn’t a difficult game, and earning the platinum trophy is fairly easy – it was a simple addition to my collection. However, I really enjoyed playing it.
I might play the other games eventually – it’d be great to earn all the trophies – but I really loved the first game and didn’t want it to end. I just enjoyed the simple things, like rescuing dragons, catching thieves, and taking care of Sparx with butterflies.
Cheers, Spyro the Dragon.
