I really dropped the ball on this. It was supposed to be sent out last Saturday, but I completely forgot to write it.
If you thought I’d stopped being interested or had nothing left to chat about, it’s just that I’ve been preoccupied with everyday things, like figuring out what to eat. But don’t worry, that won’t happen again.
I completely forgot I had planned to play Astro Bot Rescue Mission – and it’s still one of the best virtual reality games out there!
I really love the new Astro Bot game on PS5, but the original version made exclusively for PSVR still holds a special place for me.
It looks like a simple and appealing 3D platformer, but it’s hard to explain how much better it is when you play it in virtual reality.
The original PlayStation VR is starting to show its age. The graphics likely aren’t as sharp as they are on newer headsets, and it can be tricky to set up with a PlayStation 5. Sony, it would be great if you could bring this game to PSVR2!
Despite any potential drawbacks, the game is absolutely worth experiencing. The incredible depth, realistic perspective, and grand scale are truly unique to virtual reality, and Team Asobi masterfully showcases this in Rescue Mission.
Discovering the hidden Bots in each level is a lot of fun – they’re often tucked away and require you to explore the environment to find them. This same idea applies to finding collectibles, and it breathes fresh life into a game style that’s been refined over the past three decades.
Getting the platinum trophy in this game was a lot of fun. It wasn’t a difficult achievement – it mostly just required completing everything in the game – but that didn’t matter because the game itself is so captivating, charming, and enjoyable.
It doesn’t seem like we’ll see another Astro Bot game specifically for VR headsets, which is a shame. However, I still think Rescue Mission is the best VR game I’ve ever played. The good news is that Astro Bot has become incredibly popular and is quickly becoming a major PlayStation character – he might even be considered their mascot already.
Cheers, Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
