Final Fantasy 7 Getting a Newly Upgraded Version After 13 Years

Square Enix is releasing an updated version of the original Final Fantasy VII for PC. Many fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, but the original game remains popular. Currently, the PC version available on Steam has some issues. This new release aims to fix those problems and provide a better experience.

Square Enix announced today on Steam that it will soon remove the original PC version of Final Fantasy VII from sale. While the 2013 release was popular, it had some problems that newer versions on consoles don’t have. Square Enix plans to rename the older version Final Fantasy VII – 2013 Edition. Players who already own it, or buy it before the change, will still be able to play it, but it won’t be available for purchase afterward. The exact date for this change hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to happen in the next few weeks or months.

What Will This New Version of Final Fantasy VII Come With?

It’s odd that Square Enix hasn’t explained what’s new in this updated version of Final Fantasy VII, compared to the existing PC release. Most likely, this new edition will be similar to the console versions, which include features like speeding up gameplay, becoming invincible, and skipping battles. If so, this would mean all versions of Final Fantasy VII on different platforms would finally have the same features.

Good news for players who already have the current version of Final Fantasy VII! They’ll be able to get the upcoming 2013 Edition as a free upgrade. However, save files won’t transfer between different versions of the game; you’ll only be able to use your saves within the version they were created in.
