Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Remake Just Took a Small Step Forward

Development on Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 has been ongoing for several years. If Square Enix follows the same timeline as the releases of FF7 Remake and Rebirth, there’s still some time before the game comes out, but the first marketing announcements could arrive soon – potentially by the end of the year. Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Rebirth, recently mentioned the team is approaching a key development milestone. While a new trailer isn’t guaranteed right away, fans have reason to be optimistic.

During a recent interview with French YouTuber Julien Chieze, director Hamaguchi discussed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. Thanks to a translation shared on Twitter by Genki, we now know that Hamaguchi and Tetsuya Nomura are close to revealing the title of the third and final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated they’ve chosen between two potential names and expect to make a final decision and announcement before the end of the year.

When Will Final Fantasy 7 Part 3‘s Name be Revealed?

This interview was conducted in October 2025, but wasn’t published until December 7th. Considering the time that’s passed, the developers have probably already chosen a name. If they’re planning an announcement, time is running out. Luckily, there’s one major upcoming event that could be the ideal place to reveal it.

While it’s unlikely we’ll see a full trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 at The Game Awards, it’s a good opportunity for Square Enix to announce the game’s title. With the game nearing completion, the development team might work faster, but the earliest we can expect the final installment to release is 2027.

As a fan, I remember when they first showed off Rebirth at Summer Game Fest back in 2023, almost a year before it actually came out! Then we got another trailer at The Game Awards that same year, so Square Enix clearly likes using Geoff Keighley’s events. But honestly, seeing a trailer for the next game now feels a bit too early – it’s probably over a year away still.

The Game Awards is expected to be packed with big news. Square Enix doesn’t even need a full trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 – a short teaser revealing the title would be a great way to generate excitement, especially with so many people watching the event.

Look, Final Fantasy 7 basically sells itself at this point. The first two Remake games were huge, so fans like me are already hyped for whatever comes next. I’m expecting we’ll finally get an official title reveal for Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 Remake in the next few weeks, maybe even at The Game Awards!
