Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Players on Switch 2 “Don’t Need to Worry” About Performance, Says Director

The highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S next year. While some people doubted how it would perform, those who watched the comparison trailer of the opening scene agree that the Switch 2 version looks surprisingly good.

While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to PlayStation, a release date hasn’t been announced yet. The game’s expansive open-world areas put a strain on the PS5, causing some visual quality issues at launch. However, game director Naoki Hamaguchi assures players there’s no reason to be concerned.

In a recent interview with VGC, Hamaguchi stated that the team is dedicated to making Rebirth on Switch as impressive as previous games, and ensuring it meets fans’ expectations for a high-quality experience.

He highlighted how well the action RPG ran on the Steam Deck and the enthusiastic feedback it received. He believes the release of Rebirth on Steam Deck already demonstrated this potential, noting players were surprised and impressed by the game’s performance and visual quality on the device, exceeding their expectations.

We conducted experiments to figure out how to bring demanding games to mobile devices. While handheld systems like the Steam Deck and Switch 2 have different capabilities, we achieved a great outcome that informed our approach for future games in the series.

Because the game was developed for PC to automatically adjust its graphics quality based on processing power – using a unique technology similar to Nanite – the team is confident it will run smoothly on the Switch 2.

We received a great reaction to the first game on PC, which has been incredibly valuable. It’s given us the experience and confidence to continue improving, learn from our successes, and take things even further with Rebirth and future games in the series.

We’ve done a lot of testing on the PC, and because of that, Nintendo players can be confident they’ll receive a version of the game that’s just as good – or even better – than the original.

There’s good news for fans of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, which is planned for release on the Switch 2, along with other consoles, and is reportedly progressing well—though it won’t have less content than Rebirth. Before that, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available on Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 starting January 22nd, 2026.
