
Work is still underway on the last game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, and it’s officially coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite developing for multiple platforms, director Naoki Hamaguchi isn’t concerned. He did mention that limited memory on the Xbox version caused some challenges, but they were able to address them.
In a conversation with Easy Allies, Hamaguchi explained that the third game in the series has dedicated teams for each platform, ensuring their multiplatform strategy doesn’t hinder development. He stated that development is progressing “very smoothly” – this also includes the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Rebirth. However, he added that, similar to other publishers, they encountered some challenges with the Xbox version due to its limited memory compared to other systems.
He didn’t directly say if the problem was caused by the Xbox Series S. Maintaining consistency with the console has created difficulties for other games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, which ultimately released without split-screen co-op on that platform, and Black Myth: Wukong.
Regarding the Switch 2 versions, “Our core development team is working diligently on this project. Because of their efforts, we’re quite optimistic about the final result. We received positive feedback for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, and we hope fans will be excited about this new release.”
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, but Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s creative director, says the timing for the announcement is already set, and Square Enix plans to follow that schedule. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available on January 22nd, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. As for Rebirth, there’s no estimated release timeframe currently, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
