Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Director Says It’s “Already in a Playable State”

The third installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series is one of the most eagerly awaited games of the last ten years. It’s the result of a project that started in 2020, building on one of the most popular role-playing games ever made. While a release date hasn’t been announced, director Naoki Hamaguchi says the game is playable now and that an update is coming soon.

The third game is coming along really well and we’re on track with our original plan, according to a recent interview with Automaton-Media. The game is playable now, and the team is currently focused on polishing and completing the final details to create the best possible experience.

The game is getting better and better with each playtest, and it’s really exciting to see how it evolves. We expect to have some news to share with everyone very soon. We’ve also said we’ll be sharing more updates this year than ever before, so an announcement seems likely to happen in the near future.

During the interview, Hamaguchi also reassured me that making the game for lots of different systems wouldn’t make it look any worse. But it got me thinking – what about bringing Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and Rebirth to the new Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S? Would that spread the team too thin and take their focus away from finishing the story?

Fortunately, that’s not something we need to worry about, according to Hamaguchi. He explains that they have a separate team specifically for porting games, and this team isn’t involved with developing the third game. They’re very dedicated and have been carefully refining those older versions, so he trusts them to handle it while he focuses on the new game.

From what we’ve seen, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will include an enhanced version of Queen’s Blood, the card game fans enjoyed in the previous installment. While the game aims for a more streamlined design, it won’t be shorter than Rebirth. The airship Highwind will also be present, and the game world appears to have been redesigned to support it. We’re still waiting for official news about the story’s direction, though.
