Square Enix hasn’t shared many updates on the final installment of the *Final Fantasy 7 Remake* trilogy, but game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed it at the Brasil Game Show 2025. According to WCCFTech, Hamaguchi explained that the development team was committed to including everything from the story and gameplay of the first two games without making any cuts.
He explained that revisiting this approach would appeal to fans of the 1997 game. This is also the reason the remake was divided into three separate parts.
During a presentation, Hamaguchi explained that the team chose to divide the remake of *Final Fantasy 7* into three games because of the game’s passionate fanbase. They felt shortening the story would disappoint fans of the original, and that the full story required the scope offered by multiple games to take advantage of new technology.
Hamaguchi also discussed how the developers intend to conclude the story of the *Final Fantasy 7 Remake* trilogy. He stated that the third game will provide a fulfilling ending for both newcomers and longtime fans of the original. He believes the completed trilogy will be universally enjoyed.
I already know how *Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3* will end,” he stated. “I believe the conclusion will satisfy both longtime fans of the original *Final Fantasy 7* and those who discovered it through the *Remake* series. I’m confident everyone will enjoy the new game.”
Earlier this month, Hamaguchi discussed the game’s development and Square Enix’s decision to release it on multiple platforms instead of making it exclusive to consoles. He mentioned that the Xbox’s limited memory did cause some minor problems, but overall, choosing multiple platforms hadn’t significantly impacted development. While he didn’t say it directly, it’s likely he was referring to the Xbox Series S, as it has less RAM than the PlayStation 5, while the Xbox Series X has the same amount.
Hamaguchi explained that the team is managing development for different platforms by assigning dedicated teams to each one, ensuring no slowdowns. He also mentioned that, similar to what other developers have experienced, the Xbox version faced some challenges due to its limited memory compared to other platforms, but development has been generally smooth.
Square Enix will release *Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade* on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S on January 22, 2026, and has announced plans to bring the remaining games in the trilogy to all platforms afterward.
