Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Multiplatform Approach Won’t Affect Graphics, and Here’s Why

As a huge Final Fantasy fan, I was so excited when Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy 7 Remake! It originally launched as something only PlayStation owners could enjoy, but now it’s awesome that everyone on pretty much any platform can play it!

So, the third game in the series doesn’t have a proper title yet, but it’s kinda cool because it’s the first one they’re making for everything at once. The publisher decided to stop holding back and release it on all platforms at the same time, which is awesome for us gamers!

Some players have expressed worry that the upcoming third game might have to lower its graphics quality on all platforms to work on less powerful systems like the Xbox Series S or the new Switch. However, the game’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, suggests that isn’t the case.

In an interview with Automaton, Yoshinori Kitase clarified that the development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 won’t be scaled back, even though it’s being released on multiple platforms.

As a big fan, I was so relieved to hear that the creators promised the third game won’t compromise on quality at all! They explained that their whole development process is built to prevent that from happening – it’s just not how they work.

Hamaguchi then simplifies the explanation, describing how components like the GPU, CPU, RAM, and ROM (such as discs and cartridges) impact what you see on screen.

Ultimately, the development team focuses on creating the best possible version of the game for PC first. Then, they adapt it for consoles, customizing each version to work well with the specific hardware of each system.

We don’t start by designing for the most basic requirements,” he explains. “We actually begin with creating for premium settings and experiences.

Next, we use a process called ‘reduction’ to optimize assets for each platform. This ensures the game looks great without sacrificing performance on more powerful systems.

Hamaguchi explains that even the PS5 Pro version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will have slightly reduced graphics compared to the PC version. However, the goal is to optimize each version of the game for the specific hardware it’s running on.

It’s not just about turning the graphics down, you know? That can really mess up how the game looks and feels, and we don’t want that. So, we actually go through everything ourselves, looking at each version to make sure it still matches what the developers originally intended. It’s a lot of tweaking, but it’s worth it to keep the game looking its best on every platform.

I’m really excited about this game! From what I’ve heard, it’s being built specifically for each system – PlayStation, Xbox, PC, everything – so it should look amazing no matter where you play it. They’re not just porting it over; they’re really optimizing it for each piece of hardware.

The positive reception of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on the Switch 2 demonstrates a successful port of the game.
