Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, wants to keep the same development team together even after they finish the third game. He recently told GamesRadar that he hopes the team doesn’t disband once the trilogy is complete.
He mentioned wanting to start a new project with the current team once the third game is released. He explained that the team had become very close during the development of the three games and had built strong relationships.
Hamaguchi said that after the release of the third game, assuming it does well, they’ll start working on a new project. He’s excited to see what the team – which has become much closer and stronger – will create next. He emphasized that the relationships within the team have significantly improved.
He’s not sure what the next project will be. It might be another game in the Final Fantasy series, or something entirely new. But Hamaguchi is certain that fans who enjoyed the Remake trilogy will be excited about whatever the team creates next.
We don’t know yet what our next project will be – it could be a brand new game and world, or something within the Final Fantasy universe. But I’m excited about it! Fans who enjoyed the three Remake games should be really pleased with what comes next. I’m personally very eager to start working on it too.
The team is actively developing the third installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series. They’re also preparing to release the first game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026. This new release will include several features to make the game more accessible, and the team is beginning to share ideas about what players can expect from the third game.
Earlier this month, he mentioned that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will introduce a fresh way to play. He explained that while the first game was focused on a straightforward story and the second offered a vast open world, the third installment will also bring something unique to the table.
I was so excited to hear from Yosuke Hamaguchi at Brasil Game Show! He said the first game really focused on telling a strong story, and the second one took that even further by letting us explore a huge open world with way more freedom. Now, they’re building on that with the third game, and he promised it’s going to be a totally new experience. I can’t wait!
