It was recently confirmed that a specific title within the “Final Fantasy” series will be closing down on October 30th. The past few years have been quite enjoyable for “Final Fantasy” enthusiasts, with games such as “Final Fantasy XVI”, the remake of “Final Fantasy 7”, “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth”, “Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail”, “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion”, and more. As we move forward, there are exciting releases on the horizon for fans, including “Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles” and the third part of the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake”, not to mention “Final Fantasy 17”. However, it’s worth noting that this period of prosperity is a recent development in the history of “Final Fantasy”.
2010s was arguably not a golden age for “Final Fantasy” enthusiasts; instead, it might be considered the darkest period for the series. One often overlooked title from this era is “Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius”, released in 2015. Notably, this “Final Fantasy” game ceased operations in the US and Europe on October 30, 2024. However, it continued to run in Japan. As of today, that will no longer be the case; starting from October 31 of this year, the game will also shut down in Japan.
Grand Finale Campaign Live Until Shutdown
In the remaining months of this year, before “Final Fantasy” officially closes down, Square Enix is organizing a grand finale event. They’ve also disclosed their intention to launch a Special Commemorative Version prior to that date.
Square Enix expressed their appreciation for your consistent play of “Final Fantasy Brave Exius” in a statement. They’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue the service as of 12:00 on Friday, October 31, 2025. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have been with us throughout this journey. As a small token of our appreciation, we will be hosting a ‘Grand Finale Campaign’ until the end. Following the discontinuation, a Memorial Edition will be made available for the Apple and Google versions. We eagerly look forward to your continued enjoyment until the very last moment.
A Spin-Off About to Be Lost to Time
For those who aren’t familiar, “Final Fantasy Brave Exvius” is a free-to-play spin-off game developed by Alim, which was initially launched in Japan in 2015. It wasn’t until 2016 that it became available in the west. Despite being downloaded over 40 million times on iOS and Android devices, it didn’t achieve remarkable popularity. Even when Square Enix introduced crossover content to boost interest, it didn’t make a significant impact. Unfortunately, it received mixed reviews with a score of 73 on Metacritic, which explains why the western version was closed down last year and now the Japanese version is being shut down as well.
