Production is now underway on the animated series based on Final Fantasy IX, originally announced in 2021. The show, titled Final Fantasy: Black Mages Legacy, is being produced by EuroVisual and will have 10 episodes, each lasting 22 minutes.

Imel, Koln, Luciola, Thea, Fala, and Doc are the children of the legendary hero Bibi and the last of the dark mages from across the four continents. They currently enjoy a peaceful life in the city of Alexandria, protected by the kind, though often inquisitive, locals. But their tranquility is about to be shattered. Koln unexpectedly finds their sibling, Mel, frozen and motionless at the inn where he works, leading him to wonder if a dark fate from their father’s past has finally found them.
