Consequently, its launch, marred by issues from poorly received Battle Passes to poor communication with the player base, seemed problematic. These factors collectively tarnished Halo Infinite’s reputation significantly.
The poor reputation of the game resulted in significant repercussions, notably causing its player count to drastically decrease from its peak. Despite this, I, among others, continue to enjoy Halo Infinite, and I have exciting news that might astonish you: the game is now superior than ever before, making it more than worth coming back to. One important reason to come back to Halo Infinite is that its multiplayer mode remains completely free, which can be a huge advantage for gamers on a budget. Even though the game will encourage you to buy a Battle Pass, there’s actually quite a lot of content that you can unlock just by playing regularly. So if you’re looking for a high-quality first-person shooter that won’t cost you anything upfront, Halo Infinite is definitely worth checking out.
You might think that there are numerous free shooter games available like Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2, and you would be right – they are excellent choices if you have the time and storage space. However, these games focus on hero abilities and team synergies, making them quite unique in their own way. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a free game that emphasizes classic PvP mechanics rather than special powers, then Halo Infinite truly stands out as an exceptional choice.
2) More Content Than You Can Shake a Sticky At
at first, there were only a few stages, unremarkable Battle Pass rewards, and no Forge mode. Given these factors, even dedicated fans of the franchise found it challenging to stay engaged with Infinite, especially when they could revisit the golden days through the Master Chief Collection.
Fortunately, there isn’t any excess content to speak of. In fact, the longer you’ve been away, the more fresh content awaits you. The game now offers numerous levels, an enhanced Forge mode, improved unlockables, and exciting new multiplayer modes (which I will discuss further later on). This marks a significant revival for Halo Infinite, making it an excellent time to rejoin the action and experience what you’ve been missing out on.
3) The Core Gameplay Loop Is Flawless
Over time, various Halo games have introduced distinct features such as armor abilities and continuous running. Despite these differences, they all share a commonality by expanding upon the fundamental gameplay structure of the initial release. In essence, Halo is renowned for what some enthusiasts refer to as the ‘holy trinity’: weapons, grenades, and hand-to-hand combat. This blend is what sets this series apart from more realistic shooter games like Battlefield, offering an exhilarating battle experience.
What makes this so significant is that Halo Infinite represents one of the most refined iterations of the captivating gameplay mechanics that have made this franchise popular. Engaging in combat by running, throwing grenades, shooting, and even punching fellow Spartans in Infinite consistently provides a satisfying experience. For those less invested in the series, it might not appear to be a major attraction. However, for long-term Halo enthusiasts, it’s a draw to play Infinite as you won’t find this unique style of gameplay anywhere else.
4) Solid New Map Design
Initially, I pointed out that one significant complaint about Halo Infinite initially was its lack of maps. Luckily, the developers have been continually introducing new ones over time. Some of these new maps are innovative extensions of the old ones, while others present entirely fresh designs. Interestingly, most of them share a common trait: they offer a pleasing visual experience along with a well-balanced gameplay dynamic without appearing overly symmetrical.
While not essential to every gamer, this aspect holds significant importance to me. I find it challenging to fully immerse myself in games where the maps are symmetrical mirrors of each other because, although balanced, they disrupt my sense of being in a genuine environment. Halo: Infinite provides the gaming experience that I crave by featuring more realistic-looking battlefields while maintaining a fair balance between modes such as Slayer, Skirmish, and others. This ensures that the game doesn’t feel biased or unfair, which makes the Master Chief universe feel like an authentic place for those who have been playing since the beginning, offering a deeply rewarding experience.
5) A Diverse Array of Gameplay Modes
For long-time Halo enthusiasts, the true essence of the franchise lies in its diverse gameplay modes. Ever since its inception, options like Capture the Flag and Rumble Pit have provided an exciting twist for those seeking alternatives to Slayer. As new titles emerged, they introduced additional modes such as Fiesta, which I love, and Shotty Snipers, that I can tolerate. Now, I’m thrilled to share that Halo Infinite delivers a wealth of unique gameplay modes catering to every gaming preference.
If you’re a fan of undead battles or simply enjoy intense action, you’ll likely appreciate The Infection and Attrition, respectively. Attrition is ideal for dedicated players aiming to showcase their skills. Extraction introduces an exciting land-grab element to Big Team combat, making it more engaging. Juggernaut brings a unique twist to Rumble that stands out. Among the various modes, Firefight Classic shines as a fantastic choice for winding down with friends after a tiring workday, offering an arguably unmatched relaxing experience.
6) The Cosmetics Are Genuinely Fun
In simpler terms, it’s often said that beauty is subjective and depends on the person perceiving it. This sentiment holds particularly true when discussing additional visual elements in video games, such as character skins. For instance, a skin you find appealing might leave your friend wondering why you spent money on it, with an exclamation like “Really, you paid for that?” Some players, including myself, strongly dislike the idea of paying extra for cosmetics within a game, mainly because they view the core game as free. I often ponder, why would one spend money on a game if these aesthetical additions aren’t necessary to play?
Halo Infinite enters the picture here. It’s true that many of its cosmetic items are tied to purchasing a Battle Pass, but it’s quite amazing how much you can get for free – and I assure you, these aren’t just random trinkets! With a discerning eye and a touch of imagination, you can create some impressive outfits for your Spartan without spending a dime. The appeal here is that you can earn all these cosmetics just by playing the game and completing simple challenges and special events! Your experience may vary, but this is a perfect fit for me: a selection of freebies I can unlock through gameplay alone!
7) Ignore the Haters: The Campaign Is Fun
To date, my primary emphasis has shifted towards exploring the multiplayer aspect of “Halo Infinite”. Given that it’s entirely free and attracts a large number of players, this focus seems justified. However, for those who possess Game Pass, they can enjoy the campaign at no additional cost. While there have been criticisms from various gamers and popular streamers regarding the campaign over the years, I urge you not to heed the negative opinions. Instead, I invite you to experience the campaign’s thrilling gameplay for yourself.
Initially, introducing an open-world setup was exactly what the franchise required, a demand that had been simmering since the release of Halo 2. Clearing enemy bases serves as a satisfying task, offering extra benefits such as acquiring new weapons and vehicles to utilize against the foe. Engaging in miniature boss fights within the Zeta Halo ring is equally gratifying, but nothing in the campaign quite matches the thrill of the grappling hook.
It’s Master Chief, but he moves around like Batman. Let’s be real, how cool is that?
8) A Wonderfully Competitive Player Base
I’ve been holding back discussing my return to Halo Infinite until now because this point could spark debate. You may be aware that the game’s player base has significantly reduced, even after numerous developer enhancements. This decline has resulted in a tightly-knit community of dedicated players who spend a lot of time playing Infinite. Consequently, most of these persistent players exhibit high skill levels.
To put it simply, this game isn’t one that a beginner can start playing and quickly achieve victories. Instead, it demands effort and time to develop your abilities, which is often referred to as “improving” or “getting better.” This can be daunting for newcomers, so I targeted this article towards players returning to the franchise. If you’ve been a fan of this series for some time, you will probably enjoy the challenging thrill of diving into matches where (to be honest) your Spartan character might initially suffer defeats if you lack the necessary skills.
