First Details for Stardew Valley 1.7 Confirmed Alongside Switch 2 Edition Update

As a huge Stardew Valley fan, I was a little worried after the 1.6 update that we wouldn’t see any more big content drops. Everyone thought the creator, Eric Barone (aka ConcernedApe), would focus entirely on his new game, Haunted Chocolatier. So, I was thrilled when he announced a 1.7 update was actually coming! He first hinted at it back in August at a concert, but hadn’t shared much since. Now, thanks to a fan asking, we finally have a few confirmed details about what’s in store for the next Stardew Valley update, and I can’t wait!

Players have been eagerly asking Concerned Ape for more information about the upcoming 1.7 update for Stardew Valley. Over the past few days, he’s responded with some exciting hints about the new content coming to the game.

Stardew Valley 1.7 Will Add A New Farm Type and “Lots More”

On December 17th, a fan of Stardew Valley on Twitter, @CynderSkull25, asked Eric Barone (the game’s creator) for some clues about the upcoming update. Barone responded with a few early details about what players can expect in update 1.7, though he mentioned he’s not quite ready to share everything yet. He did offer a general idea of the scope of the planned content.

We’re planning to add more depth to the characters and social interactions, and as is customary, we’ll introduce a new farm type. There’s plenty more in the works, but we want to keep most of it a surprise for now.

The main news is that the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley will add a new farm type, continuing a trend with major updates for the game. The 1.6 update introduced the Meadowlands Farm, which focused on farming skills. While the developer, Barone, hasn’t revealed details about what this new farm will offer compared to the existing eight, it’s sure to give players another reason to start a new game.

Barone has suggested there will be more focus on characters and relationships in the game. This could involve expanded conversations and interactions with the beloved characters in Stardew Valley, or maybe even the introduction of new ones. While the 1.6 update didn’t add any new permanent residents, previous updates have included new NPCs. For now, the details are unclear, but it suggests a variety of new content is coming to the farming simulation.

Stardew Valley Switch 2 Edition Update Coming “Very Soon”

Along with the initial details about the 1.7 update for Stardew Valley, the developer, Barone, provided an update on the Nintendo Switch 2 version. A fan inquired about the Switch 2 edition, which was announced back in September. Nintendo originally stated it would be released in Fall 2025, and with winter now here, fans are eager for more information.

I’ll announce something very soon sorry about the long wait

— ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) December 17, 2025

Barone hasn’t said for sure if a Switch 2 update is still coming this year, but he hinted at an announcement coming very soon. This could mean the update will be released in time for the holidays, or that there have been some setbacks in getting the Switch 2 version of Stardew Valley ready. Once it’s available, the update will be free for anyone who already owns Stardew Valley on the original Switch.

It looks like fans of Stardew Valley have a lot to look forward to! With both an upgraded version coming to the new Switch 2 and the 1.7 update on the way, there will be plenty of fresh content to enjoy in 2026 and beyond.
