Famitsu, a leading Japanese gaming magazine, has revealed the first information about a remastered version of Ecco the Dolphin. However, it’s currently unknown if the game will be released on the PlayStation 5.
Series creator Ed Annunziata recently shared a two-page preview on social media, expanding on details first discussed in an interview with Xbox Wire.
He explained that the goal is to include all versions of the game – the 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit versions – in a single package, letting players switch between how the game looks while they’re playing.
This probably refers to the versions of the game for the Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, and SEGA CD. However, it’s unclear what’s meant by a “32-bit edition” as the 32X version was never finished, to our knowledge.
The Famitsu article specifically states the project is only for the Nintendo Switch. However, the story originally appeared on Xbox Wire, which hints that a version for Xbox Series X|S might also be in development.
We haven’t received any official confirmation about a PlayStation 5 release yet. However, since the game is planned for Nintendo and Microsoft consoles, it would be very surprising if it didn’t also come to PlayStation 5.
The game’s website has a countdown that ends in April, and we expect to find out more details around that time.
