HBO has unveiled the initial glimpse of Dominic McLaughlin playing Harry Potter in their upcoming TV series. This is a crucial step for the reboot as it could make or break its success. Take a look at the image of McLaughlin, provided by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, below.
Any ardent fan of the Harry Potter books would find it challenging to dispute that McLaughlin matches the initial character description of Harry, as penned by author J.K. Rowling in the first book, The Sorcerer’s Stone: a “skinny,” “green-eyed,” and “spectacled” boy with unkempt black hair. However, this latest image only hints at Harry’s most prominent feature – the lightning-shaped scar on his forehead. Indeed, McLaughlin undergoes a significant transformation compared to the promotional photo of him that HBO released last month, along with the new actors portraying Ron and Hermione (more details about them will follow).

HBO has started filming for their original Harry Potter television series at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK. This magical show is set to air on both HBO and HBO Max in 2027, reaching viewers not only in the United States but also in new markets like Germany, Italy, and the UK.
In addition to McLaughlin, the following actors from the Harry Potter series have been announced: Alastair Stout portrays Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton takes on Hermione Granger, Lox Pratt plays Draco Malfoy, John Flynn is Lucius Malfoy, Daniel Rigby assumes the role of Vernon Dursley, Bel Powley becomes Petunia Dursley, Katherine Parkinson steps into Molly Weasley, Sienna Moosah portrays Lavender Brown, Alessia Leoni plays Parvati Patil, Leo Earley is Seamus Finnigan, Bertie Carvel acts as Cornielius Fudge, Luke Thallon embodies Quirninus Quirrell. Paul Whitehouse will play Argus Filch, Nick Frost portrays Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer takes on Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu is Severus Snape, and John Lithgow stars as Albus Dumbledore. Take a look at the main cast below.
HBO’s version of the Harry Potter series will have a new lineup of characters, such as Rory Wilmot portraying Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. The script is being written and overseen by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod taking on the executive producer role while directing several episodes for HBO in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts from Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are all serving as executive producers on the project.
Harry Potter is currently filming and will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
