First Look at New San Junipero Comic Is a Solid Reminder That It’s The Best Black Mirror Episode (Exclusive)

The last ten years have been fantastic for science fiction television, with shows like Paradise and Alien: Earth on Hulu, Pluribus and Severance on Apple TV+, and Fallout on Prime Video offering diverse and compelling stories. While many shows stand out, Black Mirror is arguably the most impactful recent sci-fi series, consistently delivering exceptional episodes. Now, one of its most celebrated installments is being adapted into a comic book, and we have a sneak peek.

Twisted Comics is launching a Kickstarter campaign today, March 10th, for their new comic book, San Junipero. Based on the popular Black Mirror episode, this adaptation by writer Neil Gibson, artist Phil Buckenham, and colorist Agnese Pozza aims to capture the original’s beauty, mystery, and emotional impact in a new, expanded format. Fans of the episode can also look forward to finding plenty of familiar details and easter eggs within the comic.

Twisted Comics’ San Junipero Is Just As Moving As the Iconic Black Mirror Episode

We got a sneak peek at the upcoming San Junipero comic, and it’s truly special. Without giving too much away – the book is almost finished – we can say it’s a gorgeous adaptation of what many consider to be the best Black Mirror episode ever. It perfectly captures the spirit of the original while also adding something new. It’s not just about adding more depth, but it definitely does that! The artwork beautifully recreates the episode’s distinctive look and feel, and it expands on smaller details that didn’t get as much focus in the live-action version. Existing fans will appreciate the careful attention to detail, and newcomers will be captivated by a touching queer love story that, despite its sci-fi setting, feels incredibly relatable.

I’m really excited about the San Junipero comic! The Kickstarter just launched, and Twisted Comics is doing some awesome things for fans. They’re giving us a chance to actually appear in the comic as it’s being made, and there are two ways to get involved. You can snag a spot through one of the Kickstarter reward tiers, or enter a raffle for a chance to win a cameo. Beyond that, they’ve got some cool merch packs with stickers and keychains, and even limited-edition, one-of-a-kind collectible covers. And as a backer, your name will be printed in the book itself – how cool is that?
