Following the conclusion of Tommy Shelby’s story in Peaky Blinders, the BBC has announced Jamie Bell – known for roles in Fantastic Four and Billy Elliot – will lead the new Peaky Blinders series. Bell will play Duke Shelby, the character previously portrayed by Barry Keoghan as Tommy’s oldest son in the film The Immortal Man. This announcement also reveals initial details about the show’s cast and plot.
The BBC revealed the first images of John Bell as the new Duke Shelby, and confirmed the series will be set a decade after the events of The Persuaders! Bell’s version of the character has traded in the classic, distinctive clothing of the original for a more modern suit.

Peaky Blinders’ New Era Adds a Stranger Things Star as Story Details Revealed
I’m really excited about the new series! While we don’t know if any of our favorite Peaky Blinders faces will be back, there’s a fantastic new cast joining the show alongside Bell. I was thrilled to hear that Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things is involved, and Jessica Brown Findlay (who I loved in Harlots and Downton Abbey) and Lashana Lynch (The Day of The Jackal, No Time to Die) are joining too, along with Lucy Karczewski from Stereophonic. They haven’t revealed who anyone will be playing yet, but it would make so much sense if Heaton played Shelby’s other son, Charles – he’s perfect for the role! The BBC says they’ll share more details about the characters soon, and I can’t wait to find out more.
The BBC has revealed some initial plot details for the next installment of Peaky Blinders. Set a decade after World War II, the story follows the fierce competition to rebuild Birmingham. The city is full of both incredible opportunities and serious danger. At the center of it all is Duke Shelby (played by Jamie Bell), who is now older, smarter, more driven, and even more formidable than before.
After seeing Barry Keoghan’s wild performance in The Immortal Man, when they said Duke would be “more dangerous” in the new film, it genuinely felt like a warning! Honestly, by the end, it became pretty clear he was taking over Tommy’s whole operation, and they’d steered him towards fully embracing the family’s…line of work.
As a huge fan of Peaky Blinders, I was so excited to hear Steven Knight announce the next chapter! He shared that the story will continue in post-war Birmingham, starting in the early 1950s. What’s really cool is that Jamie Bell will be playing Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, and Charlie Heaton is joining the cast too. Knight hinted there are even more cast announcements on the way, and it sounds like Peaky Blinders is back on the road!
Get ready for more Peaky Blinders! Two new seasons, with six episodes each, are coming to Netflix around the world and the BBC in the UK. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments and join the discussion in the ComicBook Forum!
