First Look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s New Villain Revealed, 37 Years After his Marvel Debut

The upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, promises a wide array of villains. The initial trailer showed characters like Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and the Hand, but there are even more villains to anticipate. Notably, Brand New Day will be the first time the live-action Spider-Man films feature the crime boss Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III, who previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Details about Tombstone’s part in the story are being kept secret, and while he wasn’t shown in the trailer, a first look at his appearance may have just been released.

On X (formerly Twitter), the account Cosmic Marvel noticed that promotional artwork from the Brand New Day storyline was being sold on Allposters. The image includes Spider-Man and several of his enemies, with the villain Tombstone visible in the corner. Meanwhile, MCU Film News shared another piece of Brand New Day artwork that’s designed after a classic cover from The Spectacular Spider-Man comic, depicting Spider-Man facing off against a crime boss. You can see both images below.

What Will Tombstone’s Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day Be?

These illustrations offer a look at Tombstone as he’ll appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While not the same as seeing him in actual footage, since the artwork is for the Brand New Day promotion, it’s likely a good representation of his appearance in the movie. The filmmakers seem to have stayed true to the character’s comic book origins, especially with his hairstyle and clothing. His skin tone isn’t a perfect match to the Spectacular Spider-Man cover, but that’s likely a creative choice. The important thing is that his albinism – a key part of the character – is still clearly shown.

The inclusion of Tombstone in recent promotional materials for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has fans wondering what role he’ll play. With limited screen time, not every villain can be a major player. Early reports suggest the movie opens with a montage of Spider-Man battling various enemies, and Tombstone might appear in that sequence. While it’s great to finally see the character – who first appeared in comics nearly 40 years ago – adapted for film, a brief cameo in a montage wouldn’t give him the attention he deserves.

Tombstone could be a more significant character, potentially clashing with the Punisher as a powerful crime boss. We might even see Spider-Man and the Punisher team up to disrupt his criminal activities and bring him to justice. Given that Brand New Day aims to focus on Spider-Man’s street-level adventures, Tombstone is a great fit – he blends realistic organized crime with classic comic book villainy. While he likely won’t be the main villain, Tombstone could definitely play a substantial role in the storyline.

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really curious if we’ll see Tombstone in any of the upcoming marketing for Brand New Day. It would be awesome to see a classic villain finally making his MCU debut and get even more people hyped, but honestly, the buzz is already insane. Sony doesn’t really need to show everything right now. With the movie coming out at the end of July, and us not having seen a single clip of Tombstone yet, I think they’re smart to save him as a surprise for the premiere. The promotional art is already doing a fantastic job of getting everyone excited about his arrival in the MCU.
