First Look at The Harry Potter Reboot’s Diagon Alley Revealed (& It Already Looks Perfect)

Diagon Alley is one of the first glimpses Harry – and viewers – get into the magical world in *Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone*. During a shopping trip with Hagrid to get school supplies, Harry begins to understand his new life as a wizard. This location is a great introduction to many important elements of the series, like wands, owls that deliver mail, and broomsticks. While Diagon Alley appears throughout all the *Harry Potter* books, it’s especially important in *Sorcerer’s Stone*, and will therefore play a significant role in the first season of HBO’s *Harry Potter* TV series. Recent photos from the set offer a sneak peek at what fans can expect.

As a huge Harry Potter fan, I was so excited to see a new picture circulating on X (formerly Twitter) from Wizarding World Direct! It shows the Diagon Alley set currently being built, and it’s looking amazing! They’ve already got a bunch of shopfronts up, and crews are working hard on even more. You can even see them laying the bricks for the street itself. I’ve included the picture below – it’s a real treat for any Potterhead!

Why HBO’s Diagon Alley Looks Perfect

What’s truly remarkable about the Diagon Alley set is its size – it’s incredibly large for a real, physical filming location. The set is being built with multiple levels, showing how dedicated the filmmakers are to making audiences feel completely transported into the Wizarding World. Building Diagon Alley as a practical set also benefits the filmmaking process. It provides a vast space for many extras and allows the camera to move freely. While digital tools like StageCraft are becoming more common and can be helpful, they aren’t perfect and don’t always fit every situation.

Diagon Alley is another perfect example of how the HBO series *Harry Potter* captures the unique look and feel of the franchise. Just like the Hogwarts Express and the character outfits, Diagon Alley looks exactly as fans imagine it, with lots of magical shops packed closely together for students to discover. It will be exciting to see if the show uses its format to give viewers a more detailed look at Diagon Alley, maybe even showing shops that didn’t make it into the films. That would be a fantastic way to showcase the incredible work the team has put into creating this location.

This investment will likely be worthwhile in the future. Because Diagon Alley appears throughout the *Harry Potter* series, the set can be used for many seasons of the show. This probably explains why HBO is building a complete, real-life set – even though it was expensive to create. Executives were likely more willing to approve the costs knowing this isn’t a temporary build.

HBO’s upcoming *Harry Potter* series faces the challenge of distinguishing itself from the well-loved films. However, early photos from the set suggest the creators are investing significant effort and attention to detail, and hopefully, that will result in a truly special and unforgettable show.
