First Marriage Season 2: Georgie’s Criminal Descent Started with Meemaw’s Gambling Ring

Okay, so in “First Marriage,” Georgie initially comes across as a really nice guy. But right from the start, we see he’s not above a little fibbing if it gets him what he wants. It’s a fascinating dynamic because his mom is portrayed as a very moral, religious woman, but his grandmother, Meemaw, is definitely encouraging a more mischievous, even rebellious, side of him. She’s a real influence, pulling him towards choices that might not be so… wholesome.

In Young Sheldon, Meemaw introduced Georgie to her somewhat questionable bookie operation, a storyline that continued in First Marriage when Mandy became involved. This created friction between Mandy and Georgie as a married couple. Feeling responsible for supporting his family, Georgie starts to compromise his religious beliefs.

After Georgie took over his dad’s auto shop at the end of First Marriage season one, his financial problems got much worse. This stress causes him to do some risky – and unlawful – things to try and beat his competitors, and he even hides it from Mandy.

Georgie Convinces Ruben To Fight Fagenbaucher’s Shrewd Deals With Criminal Sabotage In First Marriage Season 2, Episode 4

On Young Sheldon, Georgie initially got involved in his grandmother Meemaw’s gambling as a hesitant helper. She convinced him to participate, and the possibility of quick money was appealing. At first, he mostly responded to her requests, taking small chances to assist Meemaw and also help his family financially.

In First Marriage, Georgie now fully owns Jim’s auto shop and has Ruben as an investor, which puts a lot of pressure on him to support his family. To make things even harder, Jim’s longtime competitor, Fred Fagenbaucher, is driving down prices – even giving away tires for free – in season 2, episode 4. Georgie, despite being surprisingly good with money, can’t compete with these tactics.

Facing ruin, Georgie comes up with a desperate and illegal plan. He and Ruben sneak onto Fagenbaucher’s property one night and pour bleach into the engines of his tow trucks, hoping to eliminate the competition and save Georgie’s own business. Georgie is now leading a risky and ill-conceived criminal scheme, and Ruben is reluctantly following along.

Georgie’s Lies Will Inevitably Lead To The First Divorce, Especially With Mandy’s Work Trip Next Episode

In season 2 of First Marriage, Georgie’s dishonesty is likely to lead to a divorce. Mandy has begun to suspect something is wrong, noticing things like late-night phone calls and excessive showering – common signs of infidelity.

Mandy is right to some extent: Georgie does feel guilty. He’s becoming increasingly paranoid, much like Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare, and can’t shake the feeling of what he’s done. The smell of bleach on his hands constantly reminds him of the sabotage he committed to save his company.

Mandy has no idea that her seemingly sweet husband is actually running his tow shop like a criminal. Georgie is hiding his ruthless side behind a charming personality and country accent, but Mandy is starting to see through the act.

Things are heating up in season 2, episode 5! Mandy’s work trip as a weather reporter – with her ex-boyfriend, who is also her producer – is causing tension. This already complicated relationship, combined with her increasing worries that Georgie is having an affair, could lead Mandy to make a surprising choice.

Georgie’s dishonesty, while not about love or romance, might be the start of serious trouble for the first marriage.
