First-person psychological horror game Tenebrea announced for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC

Bowl of Tentacles, a Spanish game studio, revealed that their psychological horror game, *Tenebrea*, is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2026.

Here is an overview of the game, via Bowl of Tentacles:

About

Tenebrea is a terrifying first-person horror game set in a real student residence in Valencia, Spain. The game draws inspiration from documented experiences – residents and staff have long reported unsettling events like moving shadows, objects mysteriously changing position, strange noises, and incredibly realistic apparitions. You’ll piece together the story behind these occurrences as you explore the building.

You’re Laura, a student investigating the secrets of a mysterious building. Your phone is essential – the flashlight helps you see in the dark, and an EMF detector reveals ghostly activity like voices and unsettling presences. To uncover the truth, you’ll need to explore every room, solve puzzles, and face frightening paranormal events.

Tenebrea blends mystery, investigation, and psychological horror to create a consistently suspenseful and unsettling experience.

Based on a True Story

This story is inspired by a real student residence in Valencia, Spain. For more than a decade, staff have reported strange happenings there – things like shadows moving in the hallways, footsteps when no one is around, objects being moved, and things appearing to move by themselves.

Things got worse after a terrible accident at work. A maintenance worker died when he fell while making repairs.

A security guard shared a particularly disturbing story. He said that one night, while two international students were sleeping, their TV switched on unexpectedly. The screen’s light showed the shadowy figure of a man at the foot of the bed, and the students described him as wearing a bright, reflective safety vest.

The guard’s question about their room made him recall the room where the maintenance worker had fallen. After that, management decided to permanently close the room and take it off the rental market.

This is just one account from the residents, and we have video evidence of the unusual events that continue to occur within the building.

The Story

Taking all of their stories into account, we built an original game narrative inspired by the real experiences of the residence staff. Every spooky sound, strange vision, and frightening event they shared has been recreated and brought to life within the game.

Although *Tenebrea* tells a fictional story, its unsettling mood and sense of dread are inspired by real accounts, blurring the boundaries between what’s imagined and what’s actually happened.
