Dan Trachtenberg’s latest film, Predator: Badlands, recently premiered in the UK, following his successful work on Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers. First reactions have been positive, highlighting the strong acting, direction, and unique storytelling. Produced by 20th Century Studios, the movie brings the Predator franchise back to the big screen on November 7 with a new story set on another planet.
Predator: Badlands’ first reactions are in
As a huge fan of the Predator series, I have to say Dan Trachtenberg’s ‘Predator: Badlands’ really delivers! Empire’s Amon Warmann nailed it when he called it ‘friggin’ awesome.’ It’s packed with creative action, has a surprising amount of natural humor, and honestly, I was completely hooked by the story. Trachtenberg just gets what makes this franchise work.
Aaron Percival from AVPGalaxy called the adaptation a surprising take, noting it focused more on adventure and fantasy elements. He predicted that fans of the original Predator 1 and 2 might not appreciate these changes.
I was really struck by how Dexerto’s Eammon Parks Jacobs described it – he called it a ‘cosmic buddy road movie,’ which I think is perfect! What I loved about his take is that he saw it as something bigger than just the usual scary survival story; he felt it cleverly expanded the whole franchise into something truly grand.
According to Christopher Rates at Nexus Point News, Trachtenberg’s film is ambitious, building on the established lore of the Yautja and featuring both impressive action sequences and strong acting.
According to Chris Gallardo at PopTernative, the new film feels like a heartwarming story about a chosen family set against the backdrop of the violent ‘Predator’ universe. Director Trachtenberg skillfully keeps the ‘Predator’ world exciting, and actress Fanning delivers a performance that is both captivating and frightening.
Film Hounds Magazine’s Josh Barton called the new Predator movie the most action-filled installment so far, and compared its approach to the series The Mandalorian.
According to Phil Roberts from The Future of the Force, the new film is a grand, sweeping sci-fi adventure, unlike previous Predator movies. However, longtime fans of the series might not be entirely satisfied.
The movie takes place in the future on a distant planet and centers around a young Predator who’s been exiled, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. He teams up with Thia, portrayed by Elle Fanning, for a dangerous journey to locate their greatest enemy.
Predator: Badlands opens exclusively in cinemas on November 7.
