For over three decades, video games have been adapted into films, with results ranging from terrible – like the 1993 live-action ‘Super Mario Bros.’ – to incredibly successful, such as the 2023 animated ‘Super Mario Bros.’ which grossed over a billion dollars. Many other adaptations have landed somewhere in between. One that faced a long development process was ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s.’ The 2023 film, made for just $20 million, went on to earn a remarkable $137 million, quickly leading to a sequel released in 2025: ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’.

The Five Night at Freddy’s 2 story ….

A year after the frightening events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Mike’s sister, Abby, runs away to find the animatronics – Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy – whom she considers her friends. But as strange and scary things start happening, the hidden history of Freddy’s is uncovered, revealing a long-forgotten and terrifying secret.

Scott Cawthon, the creator of the game, wrote the script for this sequel entirely on his own, unlike the first film which had help from writers Seth Cuddeback and director Emma Tammi. While this makes it less tightly connected than the original, fans didn’t seem to mind – the sequel actually did better, earning a massive $238 million. This success means a third movie is almost certainly happening and is already being planned.

It’s disappointing that the new movie didn’t acknowledge the connection between stars Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich, who famously appeared together in the original Scream. However, seeing Wayne Knight – known for his role in Jurassic Park – was a fun surprise.
