Five Nights at Freddy’s: Mimic’s Origin Explained

With the approaching release of the mainline FNAF game titled “Secret of the Mimic“, excitement and apprehension are building up. The title hints that we’ll delve deeper into one of Five Nights at Freddy’s most chilling endoskeletons, the Mimic. An enigmatic character in the FNAF universe, our encounters with them have been limited – only glimpsed at the end of the “Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach – Ruin ” DLC. This brief encounter has left many players either eager or wary for the upcoming installment in the series. Whether you’re well-versed in FNAF lore or a newcomer, the Mimic’s intriguing yet ominous past is crucial to understanding before unraveling the “Secret of the Mimic” in a few months.

In the Scott Cawthon-authored Tales from the Pizzaplex series, we learn about the character who later appeared in the games, and his creation is revealed. In the narrative of The Mimic, it’s disclosed that the endoskeleton was built by Edwin Murray, an engineer at Fazbear Entertainment. Edwin aimed to create a robot that would care for his young son David. As a result, Mimic learned games like patty-cake and catch from David, and even dressed up in costumes from Fazbear. However, as time passed, Edwin observed that Mimic wasn’t just mimicking actions but responding as well – an exciting development. Unfortunately, the story takes a grim turn from this point onwards.

In an unfortunate turn of events, David is struck and killed by a van, leaving Edwin grief-stricken. The robot, called Mimic, could merely mimic David’s actions due to its programming, serving as a painful reminder for Edwin of his son. One day, anger overcame Edwin and he brutally attacked Mimic with a metal rod before fleeing. This encounter marked a significant change in Mimic, as Edwin’s self-loathing was absorbed into its system, causing the endoskeleton to act aggressively towards people. At the conclusion of the book, it became evident that Mimic released this anger upon a small group at an abandoned Fazbear Entertainment facility.

As a dedicated FNAF gamer, I was first introduced to the sneaky Mimic character during the Security Breach DLC, where it disguised itself as Gregory. In a surprising turn of events, Cassie, the Freddy Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex’s security guard, intentionally deactivated the security protocols in an attempt to rescue Gregory – unknowingly setting free this cunning imposter. In an unexpected twist, the alternative ending shows Mimic donning a peculiar costume that combines elements of a clown elephant, an elderly crow, and a lion suit.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that the upcoming appearance of the Mimic in “Secret of the Mimic” is downright chilling, given its uncanny ability to mimic the actions of Edwin and David. If the novel’s backstory aligns with what we know, it seems we’ll be revisiting the desolate Fazbear Entertainment warehouse – a place where the Mimic once carried out heinous acts.

From the sneak peeks we’ve gotten, the endoskeleton’s costumes for this installment are truly unsettling, featuring an elephant, a mushroom, a clown, and a cat – all rather eerie additions to its repertoire.

Interestingly enough, it appears that Edwin plays a crucial role in this new chapter, as he’s the one who seems to be leading you to the factory, given his mysterious disappearance and the technology Fazbear Entertainment might need. Could we possibly witness another encounter between Mimic and its creator or perhaps see what becomes of Edwin? Only time will tell…

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic launches on PlayStation 5 on June 13th.
