Follow-Up To 90% Rated MCU Release Finally Gets An Exciting Update After 3 Years Of Silence

Marvel has released a huge amount of content recently, causing the Marvel Cinematic Universe to expand rapidly. However, this has led to characters often disappearing for years between appearances. Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, who first appeared in 2021, won’t return until the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. While Shang-Chi’s case is particularly noticeable, it’s not unique – many characters have similar gaps between appearances.

Michael Giacchino, the composer and director behind the 2023 Marvel TV special Werewolf by Night, has announced he’s directing the sequel. He encouraged viewers to watch the original, which is available on Disney+, while playfully referencing recent discussions about the streaming service after Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, as reported by Deadline.

Werewolf by Night was One of Marvel’s Best Phase 4 Releases

Michael Giacchino’s Werewolf by Night was a standout release in Marvel’s Phase 4, earning high praise from critics (a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes). The acclaimed composer crafted a unique special that broke away from typical Marvel formulas. Notably, it was originally presented in black and white, paying tribute to classic horror films. The special featured Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell, the Werewolf, and Laura Donnelly as monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.

The Werewolf by Night special ended with Elsa gaining the Bloodstone’s power, establishing her as a powerful player in the MCU’s growing world of supernatural stories. The show also suggested Jack Russell is still learning to control his werewolf transformations, potentially making him a hero in future installments. Plus, the episode finally introduced Man-Thing, a monster fans have been anticipating in the MCU for a while. It’s exciting to think about where these characters and storylines will go next.

Honestly, we hadn’t heard a peep about a Werewolf by Night sequel until just now! Michael Giacchino mentioned a few months ago he’d love to come back, but it sounded like Marvel was waiting to see how things shook out with the movie industry post-pandemic. It seems like Marvel and Disney are being more careful about how many projects they release, wanting to make sure everything feels special. But the good news is, it looks like the sequel is happening! As a fan of the original presentation, I’m so excited to hear that!
