Football Manager 26 is finally available after a year-long break – a first for the popular spreadsheet simulator. However, PC gamers who have played for years are already expressing their disappointment with the new release.
As of today, the game has received ‘Mostly Negative’ reviews on Steam. Many players are criticizing it because it seems to have been primarily built for console gamers, and not for PC players.
I’ve been playing Football Manager on consoles for a while now, and it’s awesome that Football Manager 2024 is the first one to come out on PlayStation the same day as the PC version! It’s a big deal for console players like me.
Sports Interactive has decided to skip releasing Football Manager 2025 to focus on switching to a new game engine.
They explained that the game wasn’t polished enough and the user interface needed improvement, so they chose to cancel that release and concentrate their efforts on Football Manager 26 instead.
Many players reviewing the game on Steam are claiming the PC version feels neglected compared to the PlayStation 5 version, particularly regarding the user interface.
One frustrated player expressed disappointment that the user interface improvements seemed focused on consoles rather than the original PC audience, calling it disrespectful to longtime fans.
One person commented that the game was clearly designed for consoles, despite what the developers said publicly. While designing for consoles isn’t inherently a problem, they believe the PC version has been severely compromised as a result.
While there are reports of bugs and missing features, the most common complaint seems to be how difficult it is to navigate the menus.
Sports Interactive faces a real challenge with Football Manager, as the game’s success heavily relies on its user interface.
Console gaming offers the biggest opportunity for expanding the series, especially since it already has a large audience on PC.
It seems the game hasn’t quite hit the mark, disappointing longtime fans while trying to attract new players on the PS5.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it responds to the fierce criticism.
