For Some Reason, Sony Apparently Got Gran Turismo 7 Running on Switch 2

Sony allegedly has a functioning Switch 2 build of tentpole exclusive Gran Turismo 7.

According to Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb – a reliable source who has accurately reported on PlayStation news before – a new announcement is coming. He’s often correct about when PlayStation will hold its State of Play presentations, and he even predicted the surprise release of God of War: Sons of Sparta.

During a recent livestream, he casually mentioned hearing that the game Gran Turismo is being developed for the new Switch 2 console. This comment was noticed by viewers on Reddit a few days later.

Honestly, I don’t think this game is coming to the Switch 2, but I still find the whole situation pretty interesting, to be fair.

This story is odd because, if true, it’s unclear why Sony would bother requesting development kits for the Switch 2 – they’re famously hard to get – just for a simple technology demonstration.

Some people have guessed that Polyphony Digital might have been testing a less powerful version of the racing game, possibly in preparation for PlayStation’s new handheld console. However, as a studio directly owned by PlayStation, wouldn’t they already have access to test the console’s hardware?

If not, there are plenty of other portable devices available for it to play with, aren’t there?

Gran Turismo 7 is also playable on the PlayStation 4, which suggests it should run very well on the Switch 2.

Sony has always highly valued the Gran Turismo series, and it’s one of the very few of their exclusive games that you can’t play on PC.

It’s doubtful this game will come to the Switch 2. The console lacks the analogue triggers and strong steering wheel compatibility that are essential for fully enjoying the game.
