Forget Jean Grey, We Know Just Which Mutant Sadie Sink Should Play in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Everyone is curious about what role Sadie Sink will play in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. While many Marvel characters have been suggested, from lesser-known villains to major heroes, we believe there’s one perfect fit that hasn’t gotten much attention – but really makes sense.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m really excited about Brand New Day! It picks up right after the crazy events of No Way Home, and it’s essentially a fresh start for Peter Parker. Doctor Strange’s spell wiped everyone’s memory of him, so he’s back to being a mysterious masked hero. What’s cool is the story jumps forward four years, showing us what Peter’s been doing all that time before he gets pulled into another big adventure on the streets.

Sadie Sink Should Play Firestar, Not Jean Grey, In Brand New Day

Fans online have been buzzing with theories about what role Sadie Sink might play, and the most popular idea is that she’ll be Jean Grey. Marvel has signaled its intention to feature the X-Men more heavily in future Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as hinted at in Avengers: Doomsday. Adding to the speculation, rumors point to the storyline from Brand New Day, where a government organization that hunts mutants will target Sink’s character. Given her popularity and the possibility of a red-haired mutant, Jean Grey seems like the most likely choice.

Introducing Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie feels a little out of place. She’s a central figure in the X-Men, so it would be unusual to first appear in a project unrelated to her team. Making her initial appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe more connected to Spider-Man and The Punisher than to Cyclops and Professor X would likely frustrate fans who loved the X-Men films from FOX. While rumors about Jean Grey appearing are circulating, she might not be the most fitting choice.

A more fitting choice for Sadie Sink’s character would be Firestar. Originally created for the animated series Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends as a substitute for the Human Torch, Firestar is a mutant with the power to control heat. She can fly, project fire, and has become a regular character in Marvel Comics since her comic book debut in 1985’s Uncanny X-Men #193. She was previously a member of the X-Men.

Firestar fits well into the story of Brand New Day because she began as a character within the Spider-Man universe and is a mutant. Using her avoids the complications of introducing Jean Grey in this film, allowing that story for a dedicated X-Men movie. While Anya Taylor-Joy’s popularity could elevate Firestar’s profile, she’s a relatively minor character in the larger Marvel universe, making her an ideal choice for a supporting role.

Given that the Department of Damage Control (DODC) in Wonder Man is focused on capturing individuals with special abilities, a character like Firestar would fit this storyline well. While Jean Grey is so powerful she’d likely escape the DODC on her own, Firestar’s powers are dangerous enough that Spider-Man might be needed to contain her, creating a situation where he isn’t clearly aligned with either Firestar or the DODC.

Firestar Would Be The Perfect Recurring Spider-Man Character

With Peter Parker largely forgotten, many of the supporting characters from his earlier Marvel movies are no longer around. The new storyline, Brand New Day, needs to introduce a fresh group of allies, and Firestar would be a great addition. She could reappear in future Spider-Man films as a helpful hero, and even potentially become a romantic interest – a role she’s played in Spider-Man stories before.

Bringing Jean Grey into the story would make Brand New Day a must-watch for anyone working on future X-Men projects. Firestar, on the other hand, could stay primarily within the Spider-Man universe, as her story doesn’t necessarily need to connect to the X-Men. Still, if Firestar proves popular in Brand New Day, there’s room for her to appear in X-Men films later on, and adding a character with fire-based powers wouldn’t require a complicated setup.

While Firestar is well-known among comic book readers, she isn’t a household name, giving filmmakers a lot of freedom to reimagine the character in future Spider-Man movies and the MCU. Unlike characters like Jean Grey, who have established backstories and traits that fans expect, Firestar is less defined, so changes wouldn’t upset many. Casting Sadie Sink as Firestar would allow Marvel to avoid the pressure of adhering to a strict character portrayal.
