The competition among streaming services is still fierce, and one of the most popular movies on Netflix right now is Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. The film, based on the classic novel, was recently added for subscribers and has quickly become a hit. While many people are talking about a specific pair of glasses from another movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, I think the gloves worn by Oscar Isaac in Frankenstein are far more captivating. Let’s take a closer look at why.
Although Guillermo del Toro has won Oscars for other films, many consider Frankenstein to be his masterpiece. The movie is visually impressive, with stunning sets, effects, and Jacob Elordi’s incredible creature makeup. However, I kept noticing one particular detail of Oscar Isaac’s costume throughout the film.
Oscar Isaac’s Frankenstein Gloves Are Everything
The ending of del Toro’s Frankenstein differs from the original book, and that’s just one of the things that makes his adaptation unique. While Isaac was fantastic in the lead role, perfectly capturing the character’s appeal with his looks and charisma, I was particularly struck by the red gloves he wore for much of the film – it’s a detail I haven’t seen discussed much, and I’m curious about its significance.
Okay, so I was rewatching Frankenstein the other night, and I noticed something funny about those red gloves. They first appear when he’s trying to bring the Creature to life – he’s wearing them while scaling the tower in his lab, probably for grip and to insulate himself from all the electricity he’s using. But here’s the weird part: the experiment fails, he goes to bed with no shirt on, but he still keeps the red gloves on! It’s such a small detail, but it always stuck with me.

Okay, so the scene where Frankenstein brings his creation to life is…intense. When the Creature, played brilliantly by Jacob Elordi, finally stirs, you immediately notice the red gloves are still on his hands. And honestly, it’s a small detail, but it really stuck with me. We get a quick glimpse of Isaac’s, presumably Frankenstein’s, body during the process, and the fact that he’s still wearing those gloves, even after all that work, is just… unsettling. I kept thinking, ‘How could anyone get any rest with sweaty hands trapped in gloves?’ It’s a weirdly humanizing touch, even for a monster.
People online were surprisingly focused on Jonathan Bailey’s glasses in Jurassic World Rebirth, even though he was fully dressed. Some even thought a shirtless scene with Oscar Isaac in Frankenstein was more appealing, particularly alongside Jacob Elordi’s revealing costume. It’s odd, then, that Isaac’s subtly suggestive gloves aren’t getting the same attention online.

Everyone’s currently obsessed with Jonathan Bailey online, but Oscar Isaac is undeniably attractive too. He was incredibly charming and handsome as Poe in the Star Wars movies (available on Disney+), and a video of him playfully kissing Jessica Chastain’s arm even went viral. So it’s surprising his gloves aren’t getting the same attention as those trendy, small glasses.
You can now watch Frankenstein on Netflix and Jurassic World Rebirth on Peacock. I’m already anticipating a discussion about which movie had the cooler props and gadgets!
